It wasn’t a career people really talked about back when I was growing up. A lot has changed since then! Now with over 15 years in this industry, I can’t imagine doing anything else. It feeds so many motivators for me and is constantly evolving. This career has allowed me to travel the world, meet an incredibly diverse group of people, learn from others, teach others, see the satisfaction in a guests/clients face when we reach a mutually beneficial agreement and see the fruits of our labor come to fruition. I started my career in the travel industry back in the late 90’s with a small little start-up company called Hotel Reservations Network (HRN), even then, when no one knew or understood what it was all really about, I knew because of the energy and excitement around me in the office and the talents of my colleagues that it would be big. It happened after I left but that was what was to become the Expedia and Hotels.com of the world today. I moved into the hotel side afterwards and started my way up the ladder ultimately reaching the level of Director of Sales & Marketing after several years with Starwood Hotels & Resorts. I’ve had the pleasure of doing this in both S. Florida as well as NYC. In my NYC roles specifically, this has allowed me to explore all the amazing things our city has to offer, see and understand the ins and outs of so many hotels, as well as partner with top of the line venues and eat in some of the best restaurants in the world. Platform: My hope for this role is to bring my understanding of the hotels, venues and restaurants in NYC to ultimately provide for some unique, new locations to host our events. The synergy of the event locations together with programming, I hope, will keep our existing and active members engaged, involved and excited while also bringing into the fold members who haven’t come out in a while to support! It’s through evolving, growth and vibrancy that our NYCBTA chapter will continue to be a robust and valuable organization. © 2015 GBTA New York City Chapter.
