On Sunday, December 13, 2015,
patients from the Children’s Cancer
Institute joined HackensackUMC
President & CEO Robert C. Garrett,
Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s
Hospital Chairman Dr. Jeffrey
Boscamp, and HackensackUMC
Foundation EVP/Chief Development
Officer Jon Fitzgerald on the field
at MetLife Stadium for a special
ceremony. Cheered on by the capacity
crowd, it was an opportunity to thank
the Giants, Eli and Abby Manning, and
the Giants fans for their support in
raising over $1,000,000 to help
Tackle Kids Cancer.
This new charitable effort reached
this milestone in less than four months
with individual donations from more
than 1,000 fans, and major gifts
from radio personality Don Imus,
the Lisa B. Fishman Foundation, and
Eli and Abby Manning. In addition,
the generosity of organizations like
Modell’s Sporting Goods, ShopRite,
Aquafina, WNBC and a range of
other marketing partners helped
raise awareness and donations for
the program throughout the season.

with her hula hoop, or after an intense game of soccer,
was anything but typical. Becca would continue to
have pains until one day it became so severe that
she couldn’t get out of bed. Diagnosed with acute
lymphoblastic leukemia, Becca began treatment
at the Children’s Cancer Institute immediately.
Although Becca has a long road ahead, she does not
let her diagnosis define her. “Other children may look
at her because she doesn’t have hair, but Becca doesn’t
even notice,” said Becca’s mother, Sherry. When it
comes to cancer, she wants to help others just like her.

It is estimated that more than
40,000 children are treated
for cancer annually nationwide.
The average age at diagnosis is six and
one in eight children do not survive.

20 percent of pediatric cancers are still without
a cure. Many of these patients are children with
brain and spinal cord tumors, which carry an undue
proportion of mortality and long-term side effects
when compared to other cancers.

Corporate FunRun 5K Series
This summer, thousands of corporate professionals will lace up their
sneakers and join their colleagues in an after-work team-building
experience — one of five Corporate “FunRun” 5K races throughout
the state. Teams from companies large and small will compete for
fun and with a purpose — raising money for Tackle Kids Cancer.
“These events are fantastic for companies of all sizes, because they
enable colleagues to network and do something fun together as
team,” said Bruce Pienkny, founder of Corporate FunRun and a
passionate running enthusiast. “Our expanded New Jersey Series is
going to see working professionals across the state work together
to tackle kids’ cancer. We’re very proud to be part of helping the
Children’s Cancer Institute at HackensackUMC find a cure.”

“At New York Red Bulls, we believe that it’s not enough to just be
a soccer team. We look to win on the field and also by engaging
the community. We are excited to partner with HackensackUMC
and Tackle Kids Cancer as we hope to raise support
for those families affected by childhood cancer
and ultimately win this battle by finding a cure.”

Great Saves Start Here
Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls
Join the Fight to Tackle Kids Cancer
In 2015, the New York Red Bulls rallied behind the energy of their supporters —
and the league’s most potent offense — to win the Supporters Shield, awarded
to the best regular season team in Major League Soccer. Their goalie, Luis Robles,
added another honor when he took home MLS’ Goalie of the Year honors.
The Red Bulls know how the game can be changed when we all rally
together. Starting this season, the New York Red Bulls and Luis Robles are
joining the team at HackensackUMC to make Great Saves in support of
Tackle Kids Cancer. The Red Bulls and Luis Robles will make a donation of
$375 for every save that Robles makes over the course of this season.
Additionally, throughout the season, there will be opportunities for fans to
join the Red Bulls and Tackle Kids Cancer, such as the newly introduced
Tackle Kids Cancer ticket offer. Tackle Kids Cancer will also be offering
opportunities to win signed Red Bulls gear and exclusive experiences,
culminating with the Tackle Kids Cancer title night
on September 24th at Red Bulls Arena.
