FDR: Ed Asner
Bringing to life one of America's most beloved and influential presidents, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, FDR
(starring Ed Asner) focuses primarily on the political figure's battle with polio and reveals the humanity and grace
of the man who led the country through some of its most difficult times, including the Great Depression and World
War II. FDR is based on the play Sunrise at Campobello by Dore Schary, which was originally produced on
Broadway by the Theatre Guild and ran 556 performances — one of the longest running plays of all time.

John Waters: This Filthy World
“This Filthy World” is John Waters’ one-man show: a “vaudeville” act that celebrates the film career and
obsessive tastes of the man William Burroughs once called “The Pope of Trash.” Focusing in on Waters’ early
negative artistic influences and his fascination with true crime, exploitation films, fashion lunacy, and the
extremes of sexual politics, this joyously devious and continuously updated monologue is a rally cry against the
tyranny of good taste and serves as a call to arms for filth followers everywhere.
In his 50-year career, Waters has created one of the most influential and beloved bodies of work in all of
American cinema. His first six features are enduring staples of the midnight-movie circuit: maniacal exercises in
high-camp shock humor, each with the emotional pitch of an opera and content that wouldn’t be out of place in a
psychological text on sexual fetishes. Waters was influenced by the likes of Jean-Luc Godard, Walt Disney, Andy
Warhol, Russ Meyer, Ingmar Bergman, and Herschell Gordon Lewis.
In 1972 Waters created what would become the most "notorious" film in the American independent cinema of the
1970's, "Pink Flamingos". The film went on to become a smash success at midnight screenings in the U.S. and
all over the world. Waters followed the success of "Pink Flamingos" with three more pictures, spanning the
remainder of the decade: "Female Trouble", "Desperate Living" and "Polyester" — a wide-screen comic
melodrama starring Divine and Tab Hunter.
In "Hairspray" (1988), Waters created "an almost big-budget comedy extravaganza about star-struck teen-age
celebrities in 1962, their stage mothers and their quest for mental health." The film was a box office and critical
success and starred the then-unknown Ricki Lake, Deborah Harry, the late Sonny Bono, Jerry Stiller, Pia Zadora
and Ric Ocasek.
The success of "Hairspray" brought Waters major Hollywood backing for his next feature, "Cry-Baby" (1990), a
juvenile delinquent musical comedy satire, starring Johnny Depp. In 1994, Waters released "Serial Mom", the
well-reviewed, socially un-redeeming comedy starring Kathleen Turner and Sam Waterston, which was the
closing night attraction at that year's Cannes Film Festival.
Concurrent to his career as a filmmaker, John Waters is also an author and photographer whose work — first
represented by American Fine Arts and presently, the Marianne Boesky Galley in New York — has been shown
in galleries all over the world since 1992.

The Larry Dunn Anthology of Earth Wind & Fire
We are kicking off the film festival with our BIGGEST concert event EVER: The Larry Dunn Anthology of Earth
Wind & Fire — nine musicians, four singers and one magical night of music!
Former keyboard mastermind for Earth Wind & Fire (EW&F), Larry Dunn wrote, produced and arranged many of
the band's legendary hits from 1972 to 1983 and performed on them all — and last year, performed, produced
and arranged three songs on Earth Wind & Fire’s latest album, “Now, Then & Forever”. Dunn helped transform
EW&F into one of the all-time most successful R&B/funk/soul bands in the world, with sales of more than 100
million albums worldwide, six Grammys, 13 Grammy nominations, four American Music Awards, 32 Gold and
Platinum/Multi-Platinum records, a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame in 2000 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2010 as well as many other industry awards.
In addition to playing keyboards, organ, synthesizer, piano, clavinet, kalimba and about anything else sitting
around, Dunn held the position as EW&F’s longtime musical director. In addition, he rehearsed Earth Wind & Fire
for live stage performances and wrote many of the musical segues and medleys. His creative influence can be
felt in such classics as "Shining Star," "Spirit," "Be Ever Wonderful," "Runnin'," "See The Light," "Let Me Talk,"
"And Love Goes On," "Jupiter," as well as other melodies that will live on in the hearts of fans and popular music
lovers alike. As one of the key people behind the scenes, much of the group's musical success can be attributed
to him.
Continuing in that vein of musical style and artistic nuance, Dunn has brought together some of the world's
greatest musical talents to recreate the Larry Dunn Anthology of Earth Wind & Fire.
Dunn's unique rhythmic style, combined with artistic composing and arranging talent, meld into a legendary
performance with music’s greatest talents. The set list includes favorite and memorable hits and — maybe
something we have not yet heard. Larry Dunn’s distinctive groove, funky sync and tight polish will be featured as
the special opening act of the Festival on Friday, February 20 at the Sedona Performing Arts Center. It will be a
great way to get the party started for all the special events and movies ahead!

A Twist of Lemmon
“A Twist of Lemmon” — a critically-acclaimed live show — is Chris Lemmon’s heart-warming, musical and
comical exploration of his unique, yet universal, father/son story, couched in the lore of the golden age of
Hollywood, as told by Chris in the voice of his father — Jack Lemmon — one of the most beloved actors of all
times.
Wonderful behind-the-scenes stories, dozens of imitations of some of the world's greatest entertainers. A score
of some of Jack's favorite Gershwin songs, performed by Chris, a classically trained pianist. And all the while, at
its core, an incredibly touching glimpse into a father/son journey through life.
“What was it like to be Jack Lemmon’s son? The one question I was asked more than any other my entire life.
And if you think about it, a pretty difficult question for a kid to try to answer; any kid for that matter. In my case it
was magnified a thousand-fold, because, you see, during the latter part of the 20th century, my father was
probably the world’s most beloved actor. That question has led me on a lifelong journey of discovery. It led me to
write and publish my memoir, and it brings me now to a project four years in the making, my new one man show:
“A Twist of Lemmon”. And the crazy thing is, after all that, I’m not even the best person to answer it. After all I
was just a kid. No, there was someone who had a much clearer view of the impact that “one little question” had
on my formative years: my father, Jack Lemmon. I invite you to join us both, onstage, live, as we both do our best
to make you laugh, cry, and maybe even take a little look inside yourself. We two Lemmons, doing our best to
find an answer to that etherial question: What was it like?”
— Chris Lemmon
With a career spanning 30 years, Chris Lemmon has starred in more than 25 feature films, including “Just the
Ticket”, “Lena’s Holiday” and “That’s Life”. He’s starred in television series for all major networks, including
“Knot’s Landing” (CBS), “Studio 59” (ABC), “Brothers & Sisters” (NBC), and most notably Fox's highly-acclaimed,
network-launching situation comedy “Duet”. He graduated from the California Institute of the Arts with degrees in
classical piano and composition, as well as a degree in the theatrical arts, and went on to appear in numerous
stage productions.

1,000 Rupee Note (Ek Hazarachi Note)
India | 2014 | 89 min • Narrative Feature
Director/Producer: Shrihari Sathe
“When the goddess of wealth comes, she brings trouble with her, too.” And so it unfolds in Phulambri, a village in
India’s Maharashtra state struggling to maintain its gentle rhythms and traditions in the face of endemic
corruption.
Lonely widow Budhi-distraught since her farmer son, drowning in debt, took his own life-has nonetheless found
comfort and balance among her fellow villagers. Most of them are as poor as she is, but unfailingly generous with
whatever they have, be it goat’s milk for tea or freshly baked fluffy bread in the morning. That delicate balance is
upended the moment a politician shoves a 1,000-rupee note into Budhi’s hands at a campaign rally, setting off a
chain of events that will take her to the brink of despair and back again. With a Technicolor palette and buoyant
original songs, this deeply humanistic morality tale is a feast for the eyes, ears, and brain, and lingers long after
the credits roll.

Agave is Life

Directors: Meredith Dreiss, David Brown
Producers: Meredith Dreiss, Sharon Greenhill, David Brown
Writers: Meredith Dreiss, David Brown, Jennifer Lane, Sharon Greenhill
"Agave is Life" is the story of mankind's symbiotic alliance with the marvelous agave plant, from which tequila,
Mexico's iconic distilled spirit is derived. Told through the lens of archaeological and historical investigations, this
colorful film with both original and traditional folk music relies upon ethnographic materials, archival footage and
interviews to explore ten thousand years of the human-agave relationship. Once a critical resource for huntergatherers living in arid regions of the American Southwest and Latin America, and later playing a role in the rise
of ancient civilizations, agave, the buffalo of plants, was a source of food, drink, textiles, fuel, and medicines. We
learn that this unique desert plant, once embedded in cultural identity, mythology, art, and rituals, faces an
uncertain future. Today, ancient folkways, from fiber craftsmanship to traditional pulque and mescal productions,
are rapidly disappearing. While entrepreneurs and scientists work to turn the tide, a loss of diversity of both
cultivated and wild species may be the ultimate arbitrator.

The Osa Peninsula is an incredibly lush and vibrant corner of the world. Lush rain forests reach unimpeded from
the ocean to mountain peaks. Wildlife abounds. Plant and animal species are recovering and ranges are
expanding. This is the story of a place where individuals and groups are making a successful positive difference
in caring and healing one of the most beautiful biological tropical rain forests in the world. They are showing that
man and nature can live in symbiosis, that sustainability can be commercially viable, and individuals, groups and
businesses can come together to protect and heal the land. The Osa Peninsula itself is the central and primary
character. Her beauty, her remoteness, her limited development, her rich load of natural wealth, and the
abundance of individual stories make her unique and intriguing. All the stories on the peninsula are driven from
her magnificent presence. She is at her best when allowed to be her incredibly prolific and diverse source of life.
She is beautiful, alluring, overwhelming and mysterious. She is welcoming and dangerous. She shapes the lives
of all who live in or near her and yet she is vulnerable to the thoughtlessness and vicissitudes of men far away
from her verdant soil. She is the foil by which we can examine our actions and values and see ourselves in her
reflection. Who will win in the long run and what will happen to the Osa is unknown. It is a story of our times
unfolding right now.

The Battle Over Citizen Kane
USA | 1996 | 113 min • Documentary Feature
Directors/Producer: Michael Epstein, Thomas Lennon
Writers: Richard Ben Cramer, Thomas Lennon
"The Battle Over Citizen Kane" is a 1996 documentary about the clash between newspaper mogul William
Randolph Hearst and actor/writer/director Orson Welles over Welles' motion picture "Citizen Kane", which is
widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time.
In "Citizen Kane", Welles plays Charles Foster Kane, whose fictional life partially mirrors that of Hearst's.
However, Chicago inventor and utilities magnate Samuel Insull, Chicago Tribune publisher Robert R. McCormick,
and even Welles' own life were used in creating Kane.
In 1939, based partly on the strength of his imaginative and successful New York plays which were produced
under the aegis of the Mercury Theatre (such as an adaptation of William Shakespeare's Macbeth, which
featured an all-black cast and was set in the jungle), and the infamy of his October 30, 1938 radio broadcast of H.
G. Wells' The War of the Worlds which sent residents of Grover's Mill, New Jersey into a panic, Orson Welles
was able to negotiate a virtually unheard-of two-picture deal with RKO Pictures, the smallest of the 'big five' major
studios in this era. The deal gave him creative control under a budget limit.
"The Battle Over Citizen Kane" also details the lives of Orson Welles and William Randolph Hearst before Citizen
Kane, Hearst's manipulation of the heads of the four largest Hollywood studios: Columbia Pictures, MetroGoldwyn-Mayer, Paramount Pictures, and Warner Bros. to combine their efforts and financial strength to buy the
camera negative of the film from RKO with the express purpose of destroying it, and how the film affected their
lives after the release of the film.
The film will be hosted by Orson's daughter, Beatrice Welles, and Ray Kelly, renowned writer and head of
Wellesnet, the leading online source about the life and career of Orson Welles.

At an isolated log cabin in the harsh wilderness of Indiana circa 1817, the rhythms of love, tragedy, and the daily
hardships of life on the developing frontier shaped one of our nation’s greatest heroes: Abraham Lincoln. Using
glorious black and white cinematography to conjure an America where the land was raw, "The Better Angels"
sheds new light on the formative years of the future president and the two women who molded him into one of
the most revered men in American history. Based on 19th-century interviews with Lincoln's family members, "The
Better Angels" is a beautiful, insightful, and brilliantly composed feature debut from producer Terrence Malick's
longtime protégé, A.J. Edwards.

Capturing Grace
USA | 2013 | 74 min • Documentary Feature
Director/Writer/Producer: Dave Iverson
Executive Producers: Kiki Kapany, Michael Schwarz, Shirley Kessler
It seems like two disparate realms. One is occupied by some of the most acclaimed dancers in the world, people
who move for a living. The other is occupied by people who often struggle to move, people who have Parkinson's
disease. This is the story of what happens when those different worlds intersect. For a year, we followed a group
of individuals with Parkinson's as they prepared to stage a first ever dance performance, under the tutelage of
two long time principal dancers at the Mark Morris Dance Group. It's a story about what each group learns from
the other. It's a story about determination, adversity, contending with doubt, the transformative power of art and
the strength of the human spirit. As Parkinson's dance participant Reggie Butts puts it, when the music starts, he
says, there are no patients, there are only dancers. This is the story of a remarkable community of dancers, some
professional and some not, who have come together to rediscover the meaning of grace.

Chimes at Midnight
France/Spain/Switzerland | 1965 | 113 min • Narrative Feature
Director: Orson Welles
Producers: Angel Escolano, Emiliano Piedra, Harry Saltzman
Writers: William Shakespeare, Orson Welles, Raphael Holinshed
Cast: Orson Welles, Jeanne Moreau, Margaret Rutherford, John Gielgud
"If I wanted to get into heaven on the basis of one movie, that's the one I'd offer up." – Orson Welles on "Chimes
at Midnight".
In a career that included such masterpieces as "Citizen Kane", "The Magnificent Ambersons" and "Touch of Evil",
"Chimes at Midnight" stands as Orson Welles’s crowning achievement, a rich, human story that fascinated him
since childhood. It has been seldom seen because of distribution issues. Therefore, its presence at the Sedona
International Film Festival during the centenary of Welles’s birth is truly cause for celebration.
Focusing on themes of friendship and betrayal, Chimes at Midnight examines the shifting relationship between
Prince Hal and his debaucherous companion, the corpulent Sir John Falstaff. The script utilizes text from William
Shakespeare’s Richard II, Henry IV, Part 1, Henry IV, Part 2, Henry V and The Merry Wives of Windsor, as well
as narration from Holinshed’s Chronicles.
"Chimes at Midnight" can trace its lineage back to the Todd School for Boys in Woodstock, Illinois, where a 15year-old Welles in 1930 first adapted several Shakespearean plays into a single work entitled The Winter of Our
Discontent.
With his Mercury Theatre troupe, Welles returned to the concept of re-editing Shakespeare for his 1939 play Five
Kings. Burgess Meredith played Hal opposite Welles’s Falstaff with a score composed by Aaron Copland.
Welles revisited the story with an even greater emphasis on the relationship between Hal and Falstaff for the
1960 Irish stage production "Chimes at Midnight". Welles again played Falstaff, but this time with Keith Baxter as
Hal. Some performances took place at the Gate Theater in Dublin, the stage where Welles began his
professional career at the age of 16.
The motion picture adaptation of "Chimes at Midnight" was filmed in Spain between the fall 1964 and spring 1965
with the backing of Spanish film producers Emiliano Piedra and Ángel Escolano and Harry Saltzman, who coproduced the James Bond films. Alessandro Tasca served as executive producer. As he had done a decade
earlier with Othello, Welles invested his own money into the project.
Welles and Baxter continued in the roles they had played on stage in Belfast and Dublin. They were joined by
John Gielgud (King Henry IV), Margaret Rutherford (Mistress Quickly), and Jeanne Moreau (Doll Tearsheet) with
Ralph Richardson providing narration. Beatrice Welles, the director’s youngest daughter, reprised her stage role
as Falstaff’s young page.
"Chimes at Midnight" contains moments of cinematic spectacle and intimate reflection. It is, as Roger Ebert once
proclaimed, “a film to treasure.”
The film will be hosted by Orson's daughter, Beatrice Welles, and Ray Kelly, renowned writer and head of
Wellesnet, the leading online source about the life and career of Orson Welles.

Cast: André Dussollier, Niels Arestrup, Burghart Klaußner, Robert Stadlober
As the Allies march toward Paris in the summer of 1944, Hitler gives orders that the French capital should not fall
into enemy hands, or if it does, then ‘only as a field of rubble’. The person assigned to carry out this barbaric act
is Wehrmacht commander of Greater Paris, General Dietrich von Choltitz, who already has mines planted on the
Eiffel Tower, in the Louvre and Notre Dame and on the bridges over the Seine. Nothing should be left as a
reminder of the city’s former glory. However, at dawn on 25 August, Swedish Consul General Raoul Nordling
steals into German headquarters through a secret underground tunnel and there starts a tension-filled game of
cat and mouse as Nordling tries to persuade Choltitz to abandon his plan.
In this riveting adaptation of the stage success by Cyril Gély, the great Volker Schlöndorff (Academy Award
winner "The Tin Drum") has created a psychologically elaborate game of political manners between two highly
contrasting characters. While Choltitz entrenches himself behind his duty to obey unquestioningly all military
orders, Nordling tries everything he can to appeal to reason and humanity and prevent the senseless destruction
of the beloved 'City of Light'.

Set against the backdrop of the wolf reintroduction program in Yellowstone National Park, "Druid Peak" is a
coming of age story about a troubled teenage boy who finds a home tracking wolves in the wild lands of the
Wyoming.
Sixteen year-old Owen isn’t just rebellious — he’s a bully with a mean streak. Growing up in coal country West
Virginia, he struggles against the claustrophobia of small town life, lashing out against school and family. But
when his actions lead to the death of a friend, Owen is sent to live with his estranged father, Everett, a biologist
on Yellowstone’s wolf reintroduction program.
At first, Owen wants no part of this new life. Then he comes face to face with a Canadian grey wolf. The
creature’s deep, penetrating gaze startles him, stirring something long dead inside his own self. Sensing the first
signs of change in his son, Everett encourages Owen to collect some basic data about the wolf he saw and its
family pack — the Druid Peak pack. Owen’s small assignment grows into a passion and his own life becomes
deeply tied to the Druid Peak wolves and their struggle for survival. When a change in government policy
threatens the animals, Owen must decide how far he will go to protect the wolves, his father and the place he has
finally come to call home. A coming of age story with a conservation twist, "Druid Peak" is a film about the human

Writer: Austin Peck
For over 40 years, Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick has been pioneering the art and science of raising orphaned
elephants with a human family, so that one day, they may rejoin the wild herds and the life they were destined to
lead. Over that past half-century, the once infinite-seeming population of Africa's elephants, has dwindled to less
than 10% of their original numbers- to create piano keys and trinkets that each cost the life of a deeply sentient
creature. Today, her knowledge has become a critical part of the battle to save the elephants that remain.
Flanked by her family and an elite team of anti-poaching rangers, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust confronts the
perpetrators in the bush and rescues the young of fallen elephants, who gain a loving human family and cohort of
fellow orphans, in preparation to eventually go back to the wild. Through their work, the Sheldrick Trust have
revealed that the two species — human and elephant — are not only capable of profound connection, but find
ourselves in a state of desperate mutual dependence, upon which the survival of our species depends.
"Gardeners of Eden" is an immersive film, designed to bring an audience to the shores of this connection, to the
feeling of being in the presence of these majestic creatures in their own environment, and with urgency, to the
realization that within a generation they may all be gone.

An Israeli woman (Ronit Elkabetz) seeking to finalize a divorce (gett) from her estranged husband finds herself
effectively put on trial by her country’s religious marriage laws, in this powerhouse courtroom drama from sibling
directors Shlomi and Ronit Elkabetz. In Israel, there is neither civil marriage nor civil divorce; only Orthodox
rabbis can legalize a union or its dissolution, which is only possible with the husband’s full consent. Trapped in a
loveless marriage, Viviane Amsalem has been applying for a divorce for three years but her religiously devout
husband Elisha (Simon Abkarian of "Casino Royale" and "Persepolis"), continually refuses. His cold
intransigence, Viviane’s determination to fight for her freedom, and the ambiguous role of the rabbinical judges
shape a procedure where tragedy vies with absurdity and everything is brought out into the open for judgment.
Winner of the Israeli Film Academy Ophir Award for Best Picture and propelled by the craft of Ronit Elkabetz
"(Late Marriage", "The Band's Visit"), one of Israeli cinema’s most acclaimed actresses, "Gett: The Trial of
Viviane Amsalem" is an uncompromising, heart-rending portrait of a woman’s struggle to overcome an unmoving

The Great Invisible
USA | 2014 | 92 min • Documentary Feature
Director: Margaret Brown
Producers: Margaret Brown, Julie Goldman, Jason Orans
On April 20, 2010, communities throughout the Gulf Coast of the United States were devastated by the explosion
of the Deepwater Horizon, a state-of-the-art, offshore oil-drilling rig operated by BP in the Gulf of Mexico. The
blast killed 11 of the rig’s 126 crewmembers and injured many more, setting off a fireball that could be seen 35
miles away. After two days ablaze, the Deepwater Horizon sank, causing the largest offshore oil spill in American
history. The spill flowed unabated for almost three months, dumping hundreds of millions of gallons of oil in the
ocean, shutting down the local fishing industry, polluting the fragile ecosystem and raising serious questions
about the safety of continued offshore drilling.
In the thought-provoking new documentary "The Great Invisible", Peabody Award-winning documentarian
Margaret Brown travels to small towns and major cities in Alabama, Louisiana and Texas to explore the fallout of
the disaster on the people of the region. Eyewitnesses reconstruct the spill and its aftermath in their own words,
creating a vivid picture of the deadly accident and its consequences. Brown treats her subjects with respect and
sensitivity as they provide first-hand accounts of the tragedy from the moment of the explosion to its still unfolding
repercussions on the region and its residents.
Interweaving personal stories with insight from industry insiders and news footage of the disaster and its
aftermath, Brown creates an intimate and emotional look at the many people still haunted by the Deepwater
Horizon explosion long after the story has faded from the front page. The first comprehensive overview of the
incident and its aftermath, "The Great Invisible" brings a new and unique perspective to the ongoing tension
between the haves and the have-nots, exploring the crisis through the eyes of oil-industry executives, survivors,
and local residents who are left to pick up the pieces while the world moves on.

The Hand That Feeds
USA | 2014 | 85 min • Documentary Feature
Directors/Writer/Producer: Robin Blotnick, Rachel Lears
Shy sandwich-maker Mahoma and his undocumented immigrant coworkers set out to end abusive conditions at
a New York restaurant chain. This epic power struggle turns a single city block into a battlefield in America's new
wage wars.
At a popular bakery café, residents of New York’s Upper East Side get bagels and coffee served with a smile 24
hours a day. But behind the scenes, undocumented immigrant workers face sub-legal wages, dangerous
machinery, and abusive managers who will fire them for calling in sick. Mild-mannered sandwich maker Mahoma
López has never been interested in politics, but in January 2012, he convinces a small group of his co-workers to
fight back.
Risking deportation and the loss of their livelihood, the workers team up with a diverse crew of innovative young
organizers and take the unusual step of forming their own independent union, launching themselves on a journey
that will test the limits of their resolve. In one roller-coaster year, they must overcome a shocking betrayal and a
two-month lockout. Lawyers will battle in back rooms, Occupy Wall Street protesters will take over the restaurant,
and a picket line will divide the neighborhood. If they can win a contract, it will set a historic precedent for lowwage workers across the country. But whatever happens, Mahoma and his coworkers will never be exploited
again.

nation of Bhutan, assuring the masses that rapid development was synonymous with the "gross national
happiness" of his country, a term he himself coined. Director Thomas Balmès's film "Happiness" begins at the
end of this process as Laya, the last remaining village tucked away within the Himalayan kingdom, becomes
enmeshed in roads, electricity, and cable television. Through the eyes of an eight-year-old monk impatient with
prayer and eager to acquire a TV set, we witness the seeds of this seismic shift sprouting during a three-day
journey from the outskirts of Laya to the thriving capital of Thimphu. It is here the young boy discovers cars,

"Human Capital" begins at the end, as a cyclist is run off the road by a careening SUV the night before Christmas
Eve. As details emerge of the events leading up to the accident, the lives of the well-to-do Bernaschi family,
privileged and detached, will intertwine with the Ossolas, struggling to keep their comfortable middle-class life, in
ways neither could have expected. Dino Ossola (Fabrizio Bentivoglio), in dire financial straits, anticipates the birth
of twins with his second wife (Valeria Golino). Meanwhile, Dino's teenage daughter's relationship with hedge-fund
manager Giovanni Bernaschi's playboy son complicates an already tricky social dance of status, money and
ambition. Paolo Virzi's taut character study deconstructs the typical linear narrative, observing transformative
events from each character's perspective. The result is a nuanced account of desire, greed and the value of
human life in an age of rampant capitalism and financial manipulation.

Possibly one of the most important films of the Century. "The Immigration Paradox" takes a critical and in depth
look at one of the most divisive issues in human global history — immigration. After encountering an immigrant
crossing the Arizona desert, Emmy Award-winner and Filmmaker Lourdes Lee Vasquez set out to understand
why people would risk their lives to come to the U.S. Her quest takes a shocking twist when she musters enough
courage to cross the line at a protest and has an encounter with whom she believed was her enemy. From there
on her journey, spanning 7 years searching for answers and solutions to this complex social issue, takes her and
the audience to places never before considered in the immigration debate. "The Immigration Paradox" is a
feature length documentary that exposes the missing information to the immigration issue by interviewing an
array of people from various backgrounds, which include economics, sociology, philosophy, history, policy, and
activism. This documentary will move you beyond the villain or victim scenario, the heated rhetoric and
sensationalism to reveal the bigger picture. No matter what your viewpoints or beliefs are regarding this deeply
emotional issue; the information exposed in "The Immigration Paradox" will surely leave you shocked.

Keep On Keepin' On
USA | 2014 | 86 min • Documentary Feature
Director: Alan Hicks
Producers: Quincy Jones, Paula Dupré Pesmen
Writers: Alan Hicks, Davis Coombe
Shot over the course of five years, "Keep On Keepin' On" depicts the remarkable story of 93-year-old jazz legend
Clark Terry. A living monument to the Golden Era of Jazz, Terry — a mentor to Miles Davis — is among the few
performers ever to have played in both Count Basie’s and Duke Ellington’s bands. In the 1960's, he broke the
color barrier as the first African-American staff musician at NBC — on “The Tonight Show”.
Today, after a life spent working with and teaching the most totemic figures in jazz history, Terry continues to
attract and cultivate budding talents. "Keep On Keepin' On" highlights his friendship with the preternaturally gifted
Justin Kauflin, a blind, 23-year-old piano prodigy who suffers from debilitating stage fright. Not long after Kauflin
is invited to compete in an elite Jazz competition, Terry’s health takes a turn for the worse. As the clock ticks, we
see two friends confront the toughest challenges of their lives.
Kauflin’s work on the film’s score with composer Dave Grusin sets the tone for a story that spans decades,
lifetimes and the entire history of modern Jazz, complete with firsthand anecdotes from Jones and Herbie
Hancock. "Keep On Keepin' On" is crafted with great affection, infused with soulfulness and serendipity.

Cast: Toni Servillo, Valerio Mastandrea, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi
In this elegant and chilling story about world politics, the great Toni Servillo defies expectations playing two roles,
imbuing each character with brilliant nuance and astonishing attention to detail. In the first, he personifies political
failure in the role of the disgraced ideologue and party leader, Enrico Oliveri. In the second, he embodies the
shrewd genius of a madman as Oliveri’s unhinged twin brother who seizes control of the nation amidst the void of
his brother’s disappearance.
As the national election approaches, Enrico Oliveri has plummeted in the polls and his supporters and
adversaries alike begin to acknowledge his impending downfall. Unwilling to face the failure of his party and his
nation, Oliveri vanishes into the night. The party leadership tries to hedge for time by concealing Oliveri’s
disappearance with a series of acrobatic sidesteps. In a desperate move, right hand man Andrea Bottini seeks
out Oliveri’s look-alike twin brother, Giovanni Ernani, a prolific author and philosopher who is freshly released
from an insane asylum. Slowly and steadily, Giovanni insinuates himself into his brother’s public persona,
impersonating Oliveri’s every tick and mannerism exquisitely – yet slightly imperfectly. Giovanni quickly
surpasses his brother’s political prowess with an eerie talent for rallying the masses through fearless and heroic
speeches. As Andò shifts between the failure of the sincere intellectual and the heroics of a madman, he probes
the driving forces behind our contemporary global political reality leaving behind a rich web of questions in this
unpredictable and provocative thriller.

Magician: The Astonishing Life and Work of Orson Welles
USA | 2014 | 94 min • Documentary Feature
Director: Chuck Workman
Producers: Charles Cohen, Charles S. Cohen
"Magician: The Astonishing Life and Work of Orson Welles" looks at the remarkable genius of Orson Welles on
the eve of his centenary — the enigma of his career as a Hollywood star, a Hollywood director, and a crucially
important independent filmmaker. Orson Welles' life was magical: a musical prodigy at age 10, a director of
Shakespeare at 14, a painter at 16, a star of stage and radio at 20, romances with some of the most beautiful
women in the world, including Rita Hayworth.
His work was similarly extraordinary, most notably "Citizen Kane", (considered by many to be the most important
movie ever made), created by Welles when he was only 25. In the years following "Citizen Kane", Welles' career
continued to change as he made film after film (some never finished, many dismissed) and acted in other
projects often to earn money in order to keep making his own films. "Magician" features scenes from almost
every existing Welles film, from "Hearts of Age", (which he made in a day when he was only 18 years old) to
rarely-seen clips from his final unfinished works like "The Deep" and "Don Quixote", as well as his television and
commercial work.
"Magician" will be hosted by renowned film critic Jeffrey Lyons and Orson's daughter, Beatrice Welles.

Marie a unique potential, and despite her Mother Superior's skepticism, vows to bring the wild young thing out of

Night Will Fall
United Kingdom | 2014 | 75 min • Documentary Feature
Director: Andre Singer
Producers: Sally Angel, Brett Ratner
Writer: Lynette Singer
Possibly the most shocking and emotionally staggering film ever shown by our festival. At the end of World War
II, Britain and the U.S. had teams of photographers capturing the liberation of the concentration camps. Even
Alfred Hitchcock traveled to Europe to work with photographer Sidney Bernstein, but after a frustrating month,
returned home. Although the footage was used at the Nuremburg war trials, it was subsequently buried by the
Allies and remained secreted away for 70 years. Now, re-mastered into an astounding film, "Night Will Fall" is a
devastating visual reminder of the horrors of the camps and the politics which still surrounds the history of the
Nazi era.
Warning: This film is extremely graphic. Please exercise caution when selecting this film. The scenes of the
camps have not been edited out and are extremely disturbing

Based on the novel by Luis Sepulveda, "The Old Man Who Read Love Stories" stars Richard Dreyfuss as
Antonio Bolivar, an elderly man who lives in a small village along the Amazon River. Many years ago, Boliver and
his young wife came to the village as part of an effort to colonize the area. The couple was welcomed by Nushino
(Victor Bottenbley), leader of the native tribes, but after a fever took the life of his spouse and attacks by fortune
seekers caused the natives to turn their backs on the white settlers, Bolivar has been virtually alone, with only
one close friend in the village, an aging dentist named Rubicondo (Hugo Weaving).
Bolivar passes his time by reading florid romance novels passed along to him by Josefina (Cathy Tyson),
Rubicondo's mistress who works as an aide for the village's mayor, Luis Agalla (Timothy Spall). Agalla, not an
especially scrupulous man, has been selling illegal hunting permits to visitors hunting big game, and one of his
customers made the mistake of killing and skinning a pack of jaguar cubs; the mother of the cats found the
hunter, and tore him to shreds. Now likely to attack any human she sees, the mother jaguar is roaming the jungle
near the village and must be found before she can kill again, and Bolivar steps forward to help with the
dangerous assignment of finding and capturing the vicious cat.

The Overnighters
USA | 2014 | 102 min • Documentary Feature
Director/Writer: Jesse Moss
Producers: Amanda McBaine, Jesse Moss
Desperate, broken men chase their dreams and run from their demons in the North Dakota oil fields. A local
Pastor risks everything to help them — risking his own position.
In the tiny town of Williston, North Dakota, tens of thousands of unemployed hopefuls show up with dreams of
honest work and a big paycheck under the lure of the oil boom. However, busloads of newcomers chasing a
broken American Dream step into the stark reality of slim work prospects and nowhere to sleep. The town lacks
the infrastructure to house the overflow of migrants, even for those who do find gainful employment.
Over at Concordia Lutheran Church, Pastor Jay Reinke is driven to deliver the migrants some dignity. Night after
night, he converts his church into a makeshift dorm and counseling center, opening the church’s doors to allow
the “Overnighters” (as he calls them) to stay for a night, a week or longer. They sleep on the floor, in the pews
and in their cars in the church parking lot. Many who take shelter with Reinke are living on society’s fringes and
with checkered pasts, and their presence starts affecting the dynamics of the small community. The congregants
begin slinging criticism and the City Council threatens to shut the controversial Overnighters program down,
forcing the pastor to make a decision which leads to profound consequences that he never imagined.

A Place to Stand
USA | 2014 | 86 min • Documentary Feature
Director: Daniel Glick
Executive Producers: David Grubin, Taylor Hackford
Producers: Daniel Glick, Gabriel Baca
"A Place to Stand" is a feature-length documentary about Jimmy Santiago Baca's transformation from a
functionally illiterate convict to an award-winning poet, novelist and screenwriter. The film is told through
extensive interviews with Baca and dozens who witnessed his transformation: family, former cellmates and
poets. The story is complimented by Baca's poetry, animation, artwork, re-creations and historical archives. "A
Place to Stand" is inspired by Baca's memoir of the same name, published by Grove Press in 2001, which has
been called elegant and gripping (The Los Angeles Times) and an astonishing narrative that affirms the triumph
of the human spirit (The Arizona Daily Star). It explores the life and mind of a man whose early life was
dominated by sadness, rejection, anger and pain, a man who embraced language as a balm for his battered
spirit, a man who — through the power of poetry — finally found his place to stand.

The Power of the Heart
Netherlands | 2014 | 84 min • Documentary Feature
Director: Drew Heriot
Producer: Alain de Levita
Writers: Drew Heriot, Baptist de Pape
Not since “The Secret” has there been such a groundbreaking film that warrants the excitement being generated
by “The Power of the Heart”.
A breathtaking film featuring the wisdom of Dr. Maya Angelou, Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle, Gary Zukav and
the stories of souls transformed by love, all over the world, “The Power of the Heart” has the potential to generate
a quantum leap in humankind's capacity for love, connectedness, compassion, and understanding.
“The Power of the Heart” is being released in conjunction with the book, The Power of the Heart, which has been
translated into nearly 20 languages. The film is written and directed by Drew Heriot, the Director of “The Secret”.
“The Power of the Heart” shares new insight about the intelligence of the heart and the life-changing energy
within it.
In the film, we discover how the human heart noticeably reacts to images seen or yet to be seen, before the mind
or body does. “We did an experiment and we actually discovered something quite remarkable,” says Rollin
McCraty, Ph.D., Executive Vice President and Director of Research and the Heart Math Institute. “The heart
seems to be connected to a type of intuition that is not bound by the limits of time and space. But what is that
intuition and how can we learn to tap into more of that?”
The producers also conduct in-depth interviews with spiritual influencers who share personal stories and
reflections about grief, love, and passion, and offer guidance on how to listen to one’s heart for powerful
realization and change to occur.

Queers in the Kingdom: Let Your Light Shine
USA | 2014 | 74 min • Documentary Feature
Director/Writer: Markie Hancock
Executive Producer: Kathryn Gregorio
Featuring: Randall Balmer, Anthea Butler, Darren Dochuk, Kathryn Lofton
If you are a student on a Christian College campus you were probably raised in an evangelical, Christian home.
You went to church regularly and were told that being gay (or lesbian, bisexual, transgender) was a sin and that
you were going to hell. You were told this over and over by your parents, Sunday school teachers, youth leaders
and pastors. If you arrive on campus and are struggling with your sexuality you will think that you are going to
hell, that being gay is the worst sin and that, if anyone finds out, you will be expelled. This scenario has deep
roots in the evangelical history of the United States where Bible-based homophobia is normative and
discrimination by churches and Christian Colleges is accepted. "Queers in the Kingdom: Let Your Light Shine"
tracks both the evangelical history of this nation and the emergence of OneWheaton — a group of LGBTQ
alumni and allies from Wheaton College (Billy Graham's Alma Mater). OneWheaton resists the silencing and
shame that has lead to a suicide on campus. They take action to support current students and each other as
many connect to their backgrounds and college experience for the first time.

Return to Dak To
USA | 2015 | 50 min • Documentary Feature
Director/Writer/Producer: Christopher Upham
Featuring: John Marcoulier, Newman Howard, Duffy Dubendorf, Bill Christie, Christopher Upham
Disturbed by the new American wars, writer and Vietnam veteran Christopher Upham reconnects with the 299th
Engineers, where he was an ambulance driver. Upham's long-lost comrades tell him an unsettling truth — they
had thought that he was dead — killed in the 1969 Dak To siege in Vietnam's Central Highlands. Upham and four
other 299th Combat Engineers journeyed back to Vietnam where they confront ghosts, former enemies and the
long term legacies of the Vietnam war.
Using rare archival film footage and still photographs the film recreates a Vietnam, which has loomed so large in
their minds and lives for so long. The film examines soldiers expectations of war and service, contrasted with the
realities of living in the war's aftermath. Questions raised by "Return to Dak To" — about the role of soldiers and
the long-term personal effects of war — take on a heightened poignancy in this current climate.

Rich Hill
USA | 2014 | 91 min • Documentary Feature
Directors/Producer: Andrew Droz Palermo, Tracy Droz Tragos
Look inside the homes and lives of small-town, rural America, where isolated kids confront heart-breaking
choices, marginalized parents struggle to survive, and, despite it all, families cling to the promise of equal
opportunity and a better life some day.
Rich Hill, Missouri (population 1393). Off the highway, next to the railroad track. Andrew, 14, works on his bike,
talks dreams with his dad, practices dance moves with his twin sister. He’s just like a lot of American teenagers,
except that his days are often also about survival. Harley, 15, lives with his grandma and eight other members of
his extended family because his mom is in prison for attempted murder. Still, Harley is the first guy in the room to
crack a joke and make you laugh when you least expect it. Appachey, 13, finds solace in skateboards and,
despite his intelligence, has had to repeat the 6th grade, which doesn’t come close to fixing what’s broken in his
life.
These boys can be tough — they know how to walk with a clenched-jaw stare like they have nothing to lose. But
when you get to know them up-close, you see their insight, their humor, and their determination to survive. And
despite the isolation and brutality of their circumstances, their hope for a brighter future persists. They imagine
that their hard work will be rewarded, and that, although there is no road map or role model, even they can live
the American dream.

Roaming Wild
USA | 2014 | 66 min • Documentary Feature
Director/Writer/Producer: Sylvia Johnson
Wild horses capture people’s imaginations, and across the country, from urban centers to rural communities, they
resonate with our sense of American identity. They represent the independence, strength, and grace upon which
this country is built. No other issue in America — aside from the Vietnam War — has ever generated such an
outpouring of public letters. Today, these horses find themselves at the intersection where modern development
collides with the needs of the wild. "Roaming Wild", a documentary directed by Sylvia Johnson illustrates the
controversy over wild horses in the West through intimate portraits of a wild herd and three characters with
diverging opinions, each working on solutions. Ultimately, this film is meant to encourage dialogue by presenting
real solutions to the question of wild horse management.
When a cowboy, an activist and a mountain man search for solutions to protect the life and land, the way they
come together to try and protect our wild horses is both touching and surprising.

Directors/Producer: Mark Fisher, Eric Daft
In August 2013 a group of 7 climbers — 5 Americans and 2 Burmese — traveled to northern Myanmar to make a
first ascent of Southeast Asia's disputed highest peak. All told, the climbers traveled over 270 miles on foot
through some of the harshest terrain on the planet. As a country that is just recently awaking from over 50 years
of military rule and relative isolation, they were offered a glimpse into a culture unaffected by the rapid pace of
globalization throughout the rest of the world. This film is not just a recounting of a mountaineering expedition, its
a film about a country that is on the brink of rapid change, and what this might entail for the future Myanmar and
its people.

To Be Takei
USA | 2014 | 94 min • Documentary Feature
Director: Jennifer M. Kroot
Producers: Gerry Kim, Jennifer M. Kroot, Mayuran Tiruchelvam
Attention Star Trek fans — secret and otherwise! This film is a look at the many roles played by eclectic 77-yearold actor/activist George Takei, whose wit, humor and grace have helped him to become an internationally
beloved figure and Internet phenomenon with 7-million Facebook fans and counting.
George Takei doesn’t shy away from digging into his remarkable career and personal life in Jennifer Kroot’s
delightful and incisive film "To Be Takei". As a child forced into Japanese-American internment camps, the actorturned-activist reveals the ways that racism affected him well into his early acting career, where he played
stereotypical Asian stock characters in film and television shows. Even after landing the iconic role of Hikaru Sulu
on Star Trek, Takei’s sharp eye, coupled with his wicked sense of humor, continued to challenge the status quo
well into the twenty-first century.
Now at 76, nine years after formally coming out of the closet, Takei and his husband, Brad, have become the
poster couple for marriage equality, highlighting homophobia through television interviews and hilarious skits,
many of which have gone viral and garnered widespread attention. Whether dishing on William Shatner or
parodying the now-infamous comments made by Tim Hardaway, Takei proves time and again why his presence
in popular culture remains as fresh and necessary as ever.

Twin Sisters
Norway | 2013 | 58 min • Documentary Feature
Director: Mona Friis Bertheussen
There are times when forces beyond coincidence seem to come into life.
In 2003, two babies were found in a cardboard box in a Chinese village and adopted to two different corners of
the world. One of them is a little village in Norway, surrounded by high mountains and deep fjords. The other one
is a big city in the USA. The adoptive parents had no idea that there was a twin sister, since their sisterhood was
meant to be kept a secret. However, destiny had other plans...
The film tells the remarkable story of the twin sisters through a parallel journey, until they meet again in Norway
when they are 8 years old.
"Twin Sisters" is a powerful human story about sibling love, human dilemma and the game of fate.

Vessel
USA | 2014 | 90 min • Documentary Feature
Director: Diana Whitten
Producers: Mitchell Block, Diana Whitten
A fearless sea captain sails a ship through loopholes in international law, providing abortions on the high seas,
and leaving in her wake a network of emboldened activists who trust women to handle abortion on their own
terms. How she battles fierce opposition and regulatory obstacles makes for an eventful film.
Rebecca Gomperts, horrified by the realities created by anti-abortion law around the world, felt compelled to
challenge this. Her method: to provide abortions on a ship in offshore waters.
Her project, Women on Waves, begins as flawed spectacle, a media frenzy, faced with governmental, religious,
and military blockades. But with each setback comes a more refined mission, until Rebecca has the revelation
that she can use new technologies to bypass law — and train women to give themselves safe abortions using
WHO-sanctioned protocols with pills.
We witness the creation of an underground network of emboldened, informed activists, working at the cutting
edge of global reproductive rights, who trust women to handle abortion themselves. "Vessel" is Rebecca’s story:
one of a woman who heard and answered a calling, and transformed a wildly improbable idea into a global
movement.
Twice decorated at SXSW.

Watchers of the Sky
USA | 2014 | 121 min • Documentary Feature
Director: Edet Belzberg
Executive Producers: Elizabeth Bohart, Stanley Buchthal, Lisa Kleiner Chanoff
Producers: Edet Belzberg, Amelia Green-Dove, Kerry Propper
Featuring: Samantha Power, Benjamin Ferencz, Emmanuel Uwurukundo, Luis Moreno-Ocampo
With his provocative question, “why is the killing of a million a lesser crime than the killing of an individual?”
Raphael Lemkin changed the course of history. An extraordinary testament to one man’s perseverance, the
Sundance award-winning film "Watchers of the Sky" examines the life and legacy of the Polish-Jewish lawyer
and linguist who coined the term genocide. Before Lemkin, the notion of accountability for war crimes was
virtually non-existent. After experiencing the barbarity of the Holocaust firsthand, he devoted his life to convincing
the international community that there must be legal retribution for mass atrocities targeted at minorities. An
impassioned visionary, Lemkin confronted world apathy in a tireless battle for justice, setting the stage for the
creation of the International Criminal Court.
Inspired by Samantha Power’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book "A Problem From Hell", this multi-faceted
documentary interweaves Raphael Lemkin’s struggle with the courageous efforts of four individuals keeping his
legacy alive: Luis Moreno Ocampo, Chief Prosecutor of the ICC; Samantha Power, U.S. Ambassador to the
United Nations; Ben Ferencz, a former Nuremberg prosecutor still tenaciously lobbying the UN for peace, and
Rwandan Emmanuel Uwurukundo, UN Refugee Agency Field Director in Chad. Alternating live interviews with
rare archival footage and striking animation, "Watchers of the Sky" illuminates the compassion and bravery of
these humanitarians and powerfully demonstrates the ability of global activism to give a voice to the silent victims
of genocide.

Director/Writer: Sean Lackey
Producers: Allen Kellogg, Spencer Jay Kim, Sean Lackey, David P. Thomas
Cast: Colm Meaney, Sean Lackey, Fred Willard, Kevin P. Farley, Nicole Forester
"The Yank" is a hilarious comedy. It’s a middle-age ‘fish out of water’ discovering that the country of his heritage

background.
Shot on location in Cleveland, Dublin and County Clare, Ireland, "The Yank" tells the story of Tom Murphy, a
middle-aged Cleveland bachelor. For Tom, "the perfect woman" is beautiful, hard-working, family-oriented and
(like his parents) 100 percent Irish. So when his best friend, Marty, decides to get married in Ireland, Tom's family
and friends send him off on a side splitting epic adventure. Tom does not know it yet, but he's about to come face
to face with the real Ireland!
Tom's plan to find his dreams takes him on a journey of self discovery to a land that defies his original
expectations. He may find out that the grass isn't always greener, even in Ireland. With the help of family he's met
for the first time, he may ultimately determine what it is to be Irish in 2013 —the year of THE GATHERING!
The Yank boasts an impressive cast including Kevin Farley, Fred Willard, Niki Spiridakos, and Lackey himself.
They take us inside their world of Cleveland, Ohio that is both charmingly Midwestern and feverishly Irish and we
then go along for the ride on their quirky exploration of Ireland.
