- The candidate was able to demonstrate evaluative and inferential skills in examining a range of geographical
evidence in a systematic way.
- In Question 1, the candidate was able to communicate his/ her knowledge and understanding with competent and
accurate use of a range of geographical terminology in explaining the formation of the delta.
However, the
candidate failed to provide an accurate explanation on the impact of the landfill on the neighbouring river and
coastal environment.
- In Question 2, the candidate was able to explain the formation of a rift valley with appropriate annotated diagrams.
The candidate was also able to explain the formation of the volcano as well as the opportunities and risks brought
by the volcano with appropriate terminology, and he/ she demonstrated evaluative and inferential skills in
examining a range of geographical concepts in explaining the effectiveness of the lava diversion channels.
- In the short essay question, the candidate’s answer showed sound geographical knowledge in the description of the
climatic constraints of farming in Southern California.
However, the discussion on the effectiveness of irrigation
in solving the climatic constraints of farming in Southern California needed further elaboration.
