Mitch Haviland History 1st 1/25/10 6.2 Assessment The United States role in WWI, including the reasons for neutrality and eventual entry into the war, and America's role in shaping the war? The U.S. didn’t want to get in to it they just wanted to stay neutral. After a bit they decided to declare war on Germany because of many reasons. In doing so the changed the way the war was going to be played out. This world conflict is now known as World War 1. The U.S. wanted to stay neutral not to get in the accusal war. The reasoning is that war is expensive and the U.S. Didn’t want to spend that much on war. Also they had some problems going on in our own country at the time. They were on both sides shipping to different people to the allies, but they disguised them as market ships. So they thought that they wouldn’t be in any trouble. They were wrong in the shipping products disguised. The United States enter ww1 by a couple of things. One is submarine warfare, the sinking of the lusitania was the final straw for the United Sates. There was also the economic issue, because the United States invested about 2 billion dollars in the British and the French. Also people believe that is was because of the Zimmerman telegram, that explained Germany was telling mexico if you help us we will help gain your lost territory. This was Germany’s way to keep the United States out of WW1, but it didn’t do any thing of the sorts, actually its a reason that they got into the war. When the United States entered WW1 the whole war was changed. Well Great Britain was running out of supplies. The United States came with like 90 Mitchell Haviland Friday, January 29, 2010 8:41:28 AM GMT-05:00 00:1f:f3:d5:a4:02 battleships to help the market ships cross the ocean. Then they helped the French on the western front, right when the Germans were starting to over power the French. The U.S. came in and started to push them back because the United States were just that good. The Americans were really angry at the Germans so they were going to what ever it takes to defeat them and thats just what they did. The Americans not only brought more power to the French and The British, but the also brought courage to the 2 countries that also helped them beat the Germans. The Americans coming into the war shaped it differently because they brought courage to the countries. Just about every country in the world contributed to WW1. The Untied States had no thought of getting into the war, they didn’t want any thing to do with the war. The Germans tried a lot of things to keep the U.S. Out of the war, but it just got them into it. When the United States entered the war, the war changed because the United States brought courage to the allies. It is still in debate if the United States was right for going into WW1, after all I’ve said decide for yourself whether they were right or wrong.
