Simon’s mother tells him that if he babysits his little brother, Jack, the whole summer, and shows responsibility; then she will let him get a dog when the next school year starts. Then every day, Simon has to wake up early every morning, and go on his paper route. He has to come home, and babysit Jack until his mother comes home from work in the evening. Then when the summer ends, Simon’s mother is impressed with his dedication and decides to get him a dog. Simon wants to adopt a dog from the shelter, so him and his mother go together to look for a good dog. After looking at a few dogs, Simon decides to adopt a small Jack Russell terrier.
