Constant Voltage LED Driver LCV
Product Overview
The LCV range is a versatile range of emergency lighting conversion equipment for 3 hour emergency lighting supply
consisting of a high temperature Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) battery pack and converter/charger module. Using dc-dc
switcher circuitry this range provides a constant voltage output (CV) for fixed voltage LEDs and panels. The LCV range
offers reliability and compatibility with most types of low power LED sources, providing three hour duration emergency
lighting at full output. The range is available in a wide range of LED voltage outputs and varying battery sizes, to suit
the developing LED market.
The LCV has extra circuitry so that it can provide a higher output voltage than the battery voltage. This means it is
possible to drive a 24V load from a 3.6V battery, saving considerably on the number of battery cells required. The
converter/charger module is housed in our standard HRN case and comes complete with 6 way and 4 way terminal
blocks. The six way block allows connection of the unswitched 240V supply, irreversible battery connector and LED,
whilst the four way block allows connection of the two low voltage leads from the LED driver maintaining supply, and two
more out to the LEDs.
All units are designed to give 3 hour duration and utilise 3, 4, 5, or 6 Cell 4Ah batteries to provide varying maximum
output power. Most of the units are designed to run the LEDs at full 100% output, although some of the constant
voltage versions can be set to slightly under run the LEDs to give full battery duration (3 hour).
The Constant Voltage (Type CV) output units are available in any output voltage in the range 8-27V DC and the
maximum loads available are:

Select this type for constant voltage loads (Constant Voltage LED loads will usually have the voltage in their part
number.) Normally use the smallest size battery capable of supporting the load for 3 hours, (maximum load =1W per
Cell) and then specify the dc output voltage required.
Typical Part numbers are as follows:
LCV/3/10
Constant Voltage conversion pack utilising a 3 Cell 4Ah battery and providing a 10V
DC output, suitable for a load of up to 3W.
LCV/4/24
Constant Voltage Conversion pack utilising a 4 Cell 4Ah battery and providing a 24V
DC output, suitable for a load of up to 4W.

Conversion Service
Due to the size constraints of LED luminaires and the necessary large size of emergency lighting batteries, the LCV
converter/charger module and battery can be supplied in a separate remote box. (Add R suffix to above part numbers)
For ease of wiring it will usually be advantageous to remove the LED driver from the luminaire and fix it within the
remote box. Dependant on size of the driver this may fit inside standard remote boxes, or a larger size may be required.
The LED luminaire can be converted for low voltage input, and the normal switched and unswitched 240V supplies can
be taken to the remote box. A colour coded PVC Sleeved loom will be provided to connect the remote box to the
luminaire. Attention should also be paid as to placing of the battery charge LED, as the compact size of LED luminaires
may prohibit the battery charge LED from being placed in the luminaire.

Technical Specification
The LCV converter/charger module is fitted with constant current charger circuit to recharge the battery within 24 hours,
and to maintain it in premium condition. There is a 2 pole changeover relay to completely isolate the Led driver from the
converter circuit upon mains failure. The battery has an additional single pole deep discharge relay to prevent the
battery being discharged below the required level at the end of discharge.
In a converted Low voltage LED luminaire the LCV pack is wired between the standard LV LED driver and the LED
luminaire.
The Constant Voltage Output is fully overload protected, and loading it beyond its rated load will result in a shorter
duration output, and a lower output voltage.
