WRITING Word Study/Spelling/Grammar: GSE4W2,4W3AInformational Writing and Choose words and phrases to convey ideas precisely. Dictation Word Study Test Friday, 12/9/16 on the following words: Whole, fraction, equivalent fraction, improper fraction, mixed number, fractional part, numerator, denominator, number line, and common fractions. HOMEWORK: Read daily for at least 25 minutes each day AFTER SCHOOL. Complete at least two book report each week. Practice 2 digits by 2 digits multiplication and 4 digits divided by 1 digit division. Ex: 23x45 4 1443 Review the multiplication facts from 0-9. Next math challenge in January. Goal at least 81 out of 90 facts correctly. We will have a class competition on Friday, December 2, 2016. Be ready! STUDY! STUDY! STUDY! Mark Burns - 11/26 Da’Maurion Shankle - 12/16 Maelyn Johnson - 12/26 REMEMBER: Be Respectful, Be ready, Be Responsible If you have not signed up for Class Dojo updates to monitor your child’s behavior, please let me know. I will get you connected. Students must have 50 positive DOJOs, no more than 15 negative DOJOs and no office referrals in order to participate in the PBIS Acknowledgement Celebrations. DOJOs ______ positives ______ negatives Math, Science, and Social Studies Science Continue with MGSE4.NF.3 Understand a fraction / with a numerator greater than1 as a sum of unit fractions 1/ . a. Understand addition and subtraction of fractions as joining and separating parts referring to the same whole. Ex: 2/3 = 1/3 + 1/3; ex: 1 ¼ - ¾ = 4/4+1/4=5/4 5/4-3/4=2/4 or 1/2 b. Decompose a fraction into a sum of fractions with the same denominator in more than one way, recording each decomposition by an equation. Justify decompositions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model. Examples: 3/8 = 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8 ; 3/8 = 1/8 + 2/8 ; 2 1/8 = 1 + 1 + 1/8 = 8/8 + 8/8 + 1/8. c. Add and subtract mixed numbers with like denominators, e.g., by replacing each mixed number with an equivalent fraction, and/or by using properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction. Example: While solving the problem, 3 ¾ + 2 ¼ , students could do the following: 3 + 2 = 5 and ¾ + ¼ = 1, so 5 + 1 = 6. Or 3 ¾ = 15/4 and 2 1/4 = 9/4, so 15/4 + 9/4 = 24/4 = 6. d. Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions referring to the same whole and having like denominators, e.g., by using visual fraction models and equations to represent the problem. S4E1 Students will compare and contrast the physical attributes of stars, star patterns, and planets. a. Recognize the physical attributes of stars in the night sky such as number, size, color, and patterns. b. Compare the similarities and differences of planets to the stars in appearance, position, and number in the night sky. c. Explain why the pattern of stars in a constellation stays the same, but a planet can be seen in different locations at different times. d. Identify how technology is used to observe distant objects in the sky. S4E2 Students will model the position and motion of the earth in the solar system and will explain the role of relative position and motion in determining sequence of the phases of the moon. a. Explain the day/night cycle of the earth using a model. b. Explain the sequence of the phases of the moon. c. Demonstrate the revolution of the earth around the sun and the earth’s tilt to explain the seasonal changes. d. Demonstrate the relative size and order from the sun of the planets in the solar system. SCIENCE QUIZ – DECEMBER 10, 2016 (Study Guide given last week!) The computer lab needs cotton balls and alcohol to clean the headphones after each class. MGSE4.NF.4 Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction by a whole number e.g., by using a visual such as a number line or area model. a. Understand a fraction a/b as a multiple of 1/b. Example: 3/6 = 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6 = 3 × 1/6 b. Understand a multiple of a/b as a multiple of 1/b, and use this understanding to multiply a fraction by a whole number. For example, use a visual fraction model to express 3 × (2/5) as 6 × (1/5), recognizing this product as 6/5. (In general, n × (a/b) = (n × a)/b.) Example: 3 × 2/5 = 2/5 + 2/5 + 2/5 = 6/5 = 6 × 1/5 . c. Solve word problems involving multiplication of a fraction by a whole number, e.g., by using visual fraction models and equations to represent the problem. For example, if each person at a party will eat 3/8 of a pound of roast beef, and there will be 5 people at the party, how many pounds of roast beef will be needed? Between what two whole numbers does your answer lie?
