Organic Care Here at Green Gardens we believe in just that, green gardens. That is why we use and recommend a unique line of organic products when it comes to caring for your landscape. We have found when used regularly, organic products such as Dr. Earth fertilizers and organic foliar sprays work just as well if not better than synthetically produced products. We have also found organic products often offer a greater degree of effectiveness in that they improve the overall health of most plants from root to bloom. What Does Organic Mean? To be certified organic, a product must be composed of natural ingredients that are brought together under stringent organic methods. These “ingredients” are combined to create an all natural product; in fact you can find any of the ingredients that make up organic products existing in nature, in some form or another. One thing to note regarding many organic fertilizers is that they are not only formulated to feed your plants, but they also aim to permanently improve overall soil conditions. In our region it is necessary to focus on strategically improving soil conditions to benefit sustainable productivity from your plants. Beneficial Micro-Organisms Organic producers such as Dr. Earth have found ways to incorporate living micro organisms in their product line. These micro-organisms work as a catalyst to boost a plant’s overall efficiency. Essentially, the fertilizer is absorbed by the plants and the micro organisms work their way into the soil along with the nutrients in the fertilizer. Micro organisms attach themselves to the plant’s roots and boost natural production; therefore creating a more efficient plant while improving soil quality. More often than not, the micro-organism levels are drastically depleted as nutrients in the soil are used by the plants. Over time it becomes necessary to boost their levels in order to aid the plant in converting sunlight to food. What Does This All Mean? Essentially plants use the nutrients found in fertilizers and soil, but as a result, the level of natural activity in the soil slowly declines. Without the beneficial nutrients and organisms found in organic products, you will likely the following: • A reduced number of blooms from year to year. • A plant that is not as full as previous years. • A deep green plant slowly fading to a limey yellow less attractive specimen. While these aesthetic issues are not always pressing, there are other factors that should be of concern. Without proper nutrition a plant becomes more susceptible to an array of negative situations. Plants, much like humans, that don’t get the proper nutrition begin to deteriorate. Plants become less efficient, natural processes start breaking down, and eventually it will become defenseless to insect infestation, disease and eventually death. When Was the Last Time I Used Organic Products? At this point you are probably asking yourself, “When was the last time I used my organic products? Was it last month or three months ago?” A consistent feeding schedule is a MUST. Just think, if we humans ate for a week and then decided to take a few days off. You don’t have to be a doctor to assume it is probably not a smart move; same goes for plants. If you are going to boost nutrient levels and stimulate organic activity in your soil it is absolutely necessary to follow a regular schedule to achieve maximum results. See our recommended feeding schedules for advice on frequency of fertilization.
