Frequently
Asked Questions
DO THE FLOWERS NEED STAKING?
No. That is the beauty of this dwarf variety. You
will get two to three feet in height. Even though
each stem branches and each branch is covered
with numerous flowers they need no staking.
WHAT CAN I DO WITH THE SEEDS THAT FORM?
Each flower stem will have upwards to 75 flowers.
Each flower will produce a seed pod with 15 to
20 pea size seeds. To encourage new growth in
same area, shake the stalks profusely to make
the seeds fall to ground. Otherwise remove pods
and shake seeds out in other part of garden. This
is well worth the effort. The next season a large
percentage will grow. In second season they will
be blooming too! And so on and so on.
MY PLANTS DID NOT BLOOM THE FIRST YEAR?
This can be the rule but not the norm. The plants
will bloom with extra vigor the next year.
SOME OF MY LEAVES GET HOLES IN THEM?
Each leaf has a fuzzy hairy-like texture. If the
leaves are wet from early morning rain or dew the
sun will often cause this. There is little you can do
except refrain from misting the foliage in the hot
sun. The flowers are not affected by this at all.

First Things First...
When your plant arrives from Roberta’s, remove
from the shipping box immediately.
Remove plastic bag and sleeve from around potted
plant(s). Discard any packing material clinging to
the leaves or soil. Pull away any yellow or brown
leaves that may have occurred during transit. If you
can not plant it into garden or larger pot within a
few days, make sure it stays well watered.
When ready to plant, do the job as early in the day
as possible to avoid extreme soil temperatures that
prevent proper water uptake from the roots. Water
them in well and whisper a few words of wisdom.

step
Remove plastic bag and sleeve from around potted
plant(s). Discard any packing material clinging to the
leaves or soil. Pull away any yellow or brown leaves
that may have occurred during transit. If you can not
plant it into garden or larger pot within a few days,
make sure it stays well watered.
2
Transplant into the garden as soon as evening temperatures stay above 40F. Dig holes twice the width
of the root ball and about 5-6 inches deep. Place them
in their holes. Pack soil firmly around roots. Water
again. Plants prefer full sun.
3
Rather than in the garden you may re-pot into large
containers. Repot the plants into at least 12 inch pots
separately or together inside one larger container.
4
Planted now they will produce flowers in summer.

Continuing Care
SHELF LIFE
Plant into garden or larger pots and place outside
immediately after the night temperatures stay above 40
degrees.
PLANT PREPARATION
Remove plastic bag and sleeve from around potted
plant(s). Discard any packing material clinging to the leaves
or soil. Pull away any yellow or brown leaves that may have
occurred during transit. If you can not plant it into garden
or larger pot within a few days, make sure it stays well
watered.
POTTED PLANTS
Rather than in the garden you may re-pot into large
containers. Repot the plants into at least 12 inch pots
separately or together inside one larger container.
SOIL
Amend clay type soils with compost or potting mix.
GARDEN PREPARATION
They prefer full sun.
PLANTING SPACING
If planting in garden space 2 to 3 feet apart.
PLANT HEIGHT AND WIDTH
These grow about 24 to 36 inches tall and 24 to 36 inches
wide.
WATER
Water upon planting and a couple times a week all
summer long.
FERTILIZER
They respond to feeding with a high bloom fertilizer
like Flower Magic plant food (M7503). Twice a month is
sufficient.
TEMPERATURE ZONES 4 to 9
When nights stay above 40 degrees, place your plants
outside and leave them there. They can withstand winter
temperatures to minus 25F.
LIGHTING
In the summer growing season, full sun is the absolute
best.
BLOOMING
Under correct conditions, blooming begins in late spring
until late summer.
PRUNING/WINTER DORMANCY
In late autumn or early spring, cut plants back to the
ground.
