Spelling Activities Menu
Use your spelling words to complete your weekly spelling activities. Complete any activity of your
choice with your spelling words. Write the number of each activity on your paper. You must do a
different activity every day. Please write neatly and always turn in your best work.
SPELLING TESTS GIVEN ON FRIDAY
A Activities
1. Write the words and circle all the vowels.
2. Write the words and circle all the consonants.
3. Write the words and cross out the silent letters.
4. Write the words in reverse ABC order, or Z to A.
5. Write the words in ABC order.
6. Write the words using different colors.
7. Draw a picture to go with each of your words.
8. Write each spelling word 3 times NEATLY in pen.
B Activities
9. Study the words for 10 minutes at home. You must bring in a note written by your parent.
10. Scramble the letters in each word. Write the answer next to each word.
11. Type each word 3 times on a computer, print it out and turn it in.
12. Write each word and next to it write down the part of speech. (Use a dictionary to help you)
13. Write each spelling word and then find the fraction of vowels. (e.g. fraction 3/8)
14. Draw and color a picture. “Hide” the words in the picture. Do not color over the words.
15. Draw a cartoon. In the captions include at least 15 of your words.
16. Write each word in triangle/pyramid form.
17. Use the numbers on a phone pad 1-9 as if you were texting a friend each word. (Don’t forget
to write the word too!)
C Activities
18. Write each word and divide it into syllables (Use a dictionary to help you).
19. Write each word and next to it, write the phonetic spelling. (Use a dictionary to help you).
20. Take a practice test at home. Write any missed words 3x each. Include a parent signature on
the test.
21. Create a shape pattern for each word.
22. Use each word in a sentence. Combining words in sentences to make them a complete, logical
sentence is acceptable. CIRCLE SPELLING WORDS!
23. Make flashcards for all the spelling words. Write the word on the front and the definition on
the back. You may use index cards or loose leaf paper for this activity.
24. Make and complete a word search from all of your spelling words. (Highlight the spelling

25. Write a question for each of your words.
26. Write 10 sentences using your words then underline the subject and predicate.
D Activities
27. Make and complete a crossword puzzle using www.puzzlemaker.com.
28. Write OR TYPE a story using all the words. Circle the words that you use.
29. Find the words in the newspapers or magazines and make a collage.
30. Write each word one time. Write the antonym next to it and use it in a sentence.
31. Write each word one time. Write the synonym next to it and use it in a sentence.
32. Find each word in a newspaper/magazine, cut out the sentence it is used in, and glue onto
paper. (Circle/highlight spelling words)
33. Print each word. What do you think the definition is? Write it down. Now look in a dictionary.
And find the definition. If you are correct put a “*” beside the word. This activity must be
done in 3 columns using the following headings: Word, My definition, and Dictionary Definition.
** Staple all sheets together.
