DENTIST INSTRCUTIONS Description: Boutique Whitening is a syringe based, take home tooth whitening system. We use active ingredients of hydrogen or carbamide peroxide based gels, which produce oxygen free radicals. These oxygen free radicals oxidise the double carbon bonds, which are the source of most stains within the tooth. Precautions: • As a safety precaution, do not offer whitening treatment during pregnancy. • Read and understand all instructions. • Review patients allergies to any ingredients listed. Instructions (both).indd 1 • Avoid patients with hypersensitive teeth • If tooth or gingival discomfort persists, inform the patient to remove trays and arrange a review consultation. • Do store exposed to direct sunlight or heat. Store the gel in a cool, dry environment and do not freeze. • Do not use any household products for whitening teeth. • Irritant and risk of damage to the eye when in contact. • Not for injecting • Avoid treatment if the patient may swallow the whitening tray. • Avoid swallowing • Harmful when swallowed Case selection: Pre-Treatment: Procedure: Make the patient aware that results may vary and can be dependant on the following factors. Staining caused by food or drink, tetracycline or minocycline medications, tobacco staining, age dependant changes, fluorosis, non-vital teeth etc. 1 Examine the soft tissues and asses general dental health, includeing failing restorations and caries. An assessment of exposed root surfaces is recommended, as this may be an area of sensitivity. 1 A custom tray must be fabricated. Restorative materials will not whiten, so the patient must be made aware that these will not change or will need to be replaced post treatment. For patients requiring aesthetic restorations, you must wait 2 weeks before placement to allow for colour stabilisation. There are studies, that show a decreased bond strength while bonding before this two-week period also. 2 Prophylaxis and scaling is recommended 2 Always record the patients starting shade and take good quality before photographs, including the correct shade tab from a shade guide. 3 Make the patient aware that hey may experience tooth and gum sensitivity. 4 Review the patient instructions with the patient and demonstrate the application of the gel and the quantity of gel they should administer. This should be a bead of gel approximately half way up from the incisal edge on the facial side of the tray. 5 Demonstrate how to remove excess gel from the gum line and explain that it is recommended to rinse their mouth at this stage. 6 Explain the recommended wear times to the patient, taking into account the type of gel they are given. 6%HP is recommended for 1 hour per day and 16%CP is recommended for 6-10 hours either night or day. 7 A recommended review of the patient is every 5 days of treatment, but this is the clinician’s prerogative. The overall length of treatment may vary and is dependant on the type of stain and their severity. Only to be sold to dental practitioners. For each cycle of use, the first use to be only done by dental practitioners or under their direct supervision if an equivalent level of safety is ensured. Afterwards to be provided to the consumer to complete the cycle of use. The expiration date is printed on the outer packaging and syringe.
