Professor Kai Yip Cho Memorial Scholarship Promoting Excellence in Postgraduate Research (Jointly funded by the Cho Family Endowment Fund and the University of Western Sydney) The Professor Kai Yip Cho Memorial Scholarship was first established in 2009 through a gift from Professor Cho’s family. Mrs Cho and her family created this scholarship to honour Professor Cho’s lifelong work and research in microbiology and mushrooms. Professor Cho’s academic legacy continues through this Scholarship at UWS. UWS is proud to support this scholarship through matching gifts with the Cho family. APPLICATIONS CLOSE 30 JUNE 2013 Objectives The objectives of the award are to: • Enhance the research outcomes of Doctoral students studying Biochemistry or Microbiology at the University of Western Sydney. • Promote research excellence and innovation. Funding Two scholarships are available, each providing a top-up of $7,500 per year to the candidate’s existing full-time scholarship ($3,750 per year for part-time scholarships). The top-up will be paid in equal fortnightly instalments. Eligibility Applicants must have commenced their Doctoral programme at UWS in 2013 in the area of Biochemistry or Microbiology or undertaking a project with considerable emphasis on either of these areas. International and domestic students are eligible to apply. Applicants must already be in receipt of a stipend scholarship to pursue their Doctoral studies (e.g. Australian Postgraduate Award, International Postgraduate Research Scholarship). Reporting Successful applicants will be required to provide a yearly progress report in October of each year to the University. This report is in addition to any other reporting requirements including UWS Annual Progress Reports, ARC Progress Reports etc. Application Process Applicants must submit: • a completed application form (see following pages). • a full CV (research experience, including any research positions held, refereed publications, popular articles, presentations at conferences and prizes). • a letter of support from their Principal Supervisor. The adjudication panel will announce the successful applicant/s no later than Friday 19 July 2013.
