system
{
Glands and hormones
Consists of
Hormones and glands
throughout the body.
The endocrine system is used for
communication throughout your
body.
 It tells your body what to do by using
chemicals called Hormones.
 These are produced in glands.
 A gland is a group of cells that
produces and secretes, or gives off,
hormones

MAJOR GLANDS
{
Major Glands of the Endocrine system
 Pituitary
 Thyroid
 Parathyroid
 Adrenal.
 Pancreas
 Gonads (ovaries and testes).

Located in the brain, helps control the
pituitary gland.
 Sends out numerous signals to other
glands
 Controls our nervous system (sleeping,
eating, body temperature)

Hypothalamus
Pituitary gland
Master gland of body
 Produces many hormones that affect other glands
 Controls growth and development


Thyroid- produces
hormones that
control metabolism
and calcium in
blood.
Adrenal glands
 Located just above
the kidney
 Secretes many
hormones that deal
with stress like
adrenaline!


Pancreas-
Located behind your
stomach
 Maintains blood sugar
levels
 Releases insulin, which
help glucose move
 Pancreas produces and
secretes digestive
enzymes


Pineal
The pineal gland, is located in the
middle of the brain.
 It secretes melatonin a hormone
that may help regulate when you
sleep at night and when you wake
in the morning

Response to a dangerous situation.
Your heart rate increases to pump more
blood to your muscles and brain.
Your lungs take in air faster to supply your
body with oxygen.
The pupils in your eyes get larger to see
better.
And your digestive and urinary systems
slow down for the moment so you can
concentrate on more important things.

Fight or Flight Response


might find itself in a fight or flight response.
How would your body react? What changes
would your body go through?
