How to Organize Notes
You may use your genetic concept activity ditto to help with your notes.
Regular Biology do not need to do cornell notes.
Honors Biology must do notes in cornell format.
Both must have outline in cornell format.
For section 1.0 Terminology
– you may place all vocab or just vocab 1 to 13 here
– class notes on vocab 1 to 13 goes here
For section 2.0 Gregor Mendel
– write answers to questions in the question guide list
For sections 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3
– define the 3 principals
– explain in your own words what is meant by dominance and recessive
– in section 2.2, also include class notes on segregation
– in section 2.3, also explain what is meant by independent assortment in your own words
For section 2.2 Probability
– include definition of probability
– class notes on probability
– also the example given in class notes
For section 3.0 Monohybrid cross
– define monohybrid cross
For section 3.1 Complete Dominance
– include the six genetic cross from class notes
For section 3.2 Codominance
– class notes on codominance
For section 4.0 Dihybrid Cross
– class notes on codominance
Guide Questions for Making Notes:
You may use these questions to help ensure that your notes are complete.
-define vocab 1 to 13 (see vocab list)
-who was Gregor Mendel?
-why is he important (what did he contribute to science)?
-what did he study?
-describe, briefly, Mendel’s experiments
-what was the results of his experiments?
-what was his conclusions?
-define principal of dominance and recessiveness
-define principal of segregation
-explain segregation by diagraming a summary of meiosis
-define principal of independent assortment
-define probability
-write the formula for probability
-use one of Mendel’s results to do an example of probability
-define monohybrid cross
-what is the Punnett square used for?
-do 6 examples of monohybrid cross be sure to state the trait, what are the alleles, identify the P1,
show the gametes, do the F1 in a Punnett square, list the number and kind of genotype, list the
number and kind of phenotype, what is the ratio for the genotype and phenotype?
-homozygous dominant X homozygous dominant cross
-homozygous dominant X heterozygous cross
-homozygous dominant X homozygous recessive cross
-heterozygous X heterozygous cross
-heterozygous X homozygous recessive cross
-homozygous recessive X homozygous recessive cross
-define codominance
-what is the deference between codominance and complete dominance?
-do an example of codominance
-define dihybrid cross
-do 2 examples of dihybrid cross be sure to state the trait, what are the alleles, identify the P1, show
the gametes, do the F1 in a Punnett square, list the number and kind of genotype, list the
number and kind of phenotype, what is the ratio for the genotype and phenotype?
It is best that you use the examples that will be given in class.
