People thought the battle would be a family event but they soon came to know it wasn’t. Out of 35,000 Union soldiers, 460 killed, 1,124 wounded, 1,312 captured or missing. They battled June 25, 1862 across Antietam Creek and that’s how the Seven Day Battle The Seven Day Battle lasted 7 days! The Union won most of the seven days but on the last day, the Confederates drove off the Union! ~Paul battle got its name. This battle was one of the bloodiest of military history. Settlers from Virginia moved across the December 13, 1863 Appalachian Mountains through the Battle of Fredericksburg One of the biggest and deadliest battles of the Civil War! There was fighting in the streets of Fredericksburg. The Union army thought this would be a quick victory against Stonewall but they failed. ~Bradley Cumberland Gap into western Virginia looking for new land opportunities. In western Virginia, people mined iron, raised wheat, and herded sheep. They didn’t need any slaves so they disagreed over slavery. That’s how Virginia broke apart and became the state of West Virginia. ~Jennifer January 1, 1863 Slaves FREED! Slaves are free and fleeing everywhere to join the invading northern states. This has happened because of the Emancipation Proclamation. It was drafted and published by Abraham Lincoln. Also it is the most important document of the Civil War because it freed all slaves from owners except slaves that wanted to stay. He had to go to Chancellorsville. While on his way, he was mistaken for a Union troop and shot!
