Topic: Rational Expressions
Aim: How do we solve rational equations with monomials
in the denominator?
HW: WS (On Website-only do #1-5 tonight)
Do Now: Solve for all value(s) of x.
1) 3x+6=15
2) x2+2x=15
May 137:54 AM
Joe solved the equation below and stated the solution was x=0.
His teacher told him the answer cannot be zero, explain why the
teacher would say that to Joe?

**Fractional equations will have an equal
sign and result in an answer. (x=)
Steps for Solving
1) Find a common denominator for each
fraction.
2) Drop denominators.
4) Solve the resulting equation.
5) Check for extraneous roots.
**Extraneous roots are roots that when
checked do not work.
