Lecture 2: What is marketing?
Marketing in the simplest term can be defined as sum of all those business activities aiming
at boosting the sales of an organization by providing effective solutions to the customer
needs and desires.
So in this way all the business activities such as market research, advertising, selling,
distribution & after sales service, etc. are all focussed on customers and helps in retaining,
expanding the customer base and boosting the sales of an organization and hence part of
the marketing.
Example: Around 2004 Google came up with an online advertising solution at a very
economical price (one can set ad budget for even 1 $ a day) especially when print and TV
ad were very expensive and become almost overnight success.
So point here is Google differentiated itself and started providing effective solution
(advertiser only pay when customer click on their website) to the customer needs at a very
economical price to become highly successful and it was not only Google pricing but also
the whole ad setting process was streamlined to provide wonderful experience to the
customers.
Remember:
All the marketing activities should have their main focus on the customer need or desire in
order to boost the sales.
Focus on the customer is extremely important because without customer there is no
business.
