Datasheet: Trusted Brand Broadcast System™
We need to... [restore] the trust and consumer confidence
that has been eroded by the prevalence of deceptive emails
and websites that are defrauding... people.
— “Protect Internet Users from Fraud and Theft”, Senator Snowe, The Hills Congress Blog
Trusted Brand Broadcast System:
Instill Confidence in Your Brand Online
For most consumers, it’s virtually impossible to tell whether or not they’ve
found you, your authorized partners, or your authentic goods online.
That’s because the Internet continues to harbor traffickers in counterfeit
and pirated goods, as well as likely fraudsters aiming to divert traffic away
from legitimate sites.
When these schemes succeed, the damage can be severe. Consumers may
unknowingly purchase recalled or inferior goods, putting pressure on customer
service and loyalty, and possibly putting them in danger. Web users diverted to
unauthorized sites may encounter anything from substandard goods to offensive
content. Consumers may even compromise their confidential information through
phish or other fraudulent sites. All of these illicit activities can erode brand confidence,
increase reluctance to do business with a brand online, and sap revenues.
Fortunately, MarkMonitor® customers can now tackle these problems more quickly,
thanks to new tools for providing end users with guidance toward trusted sites—
and away from infringing sites—while other enforcement measures play out.
The Industry’s First Direct Communication Channel That Allows Brand
Owners to Guide Internet Users to Reputable, Legitimate Sites
The MarkMonitor Trusted Brand Broadcast System™ (TBBS), available as an
optional enhancement to our MarkMonitor Domain Management™, MarkMonitor
Brand Protection™ and MarkMonitor AntiFraud Solutions™—lets brand owners
instantly advise Internet users on the reputation of the sites they choose to visit—
augmenting enforcement efforts, building additional consumer trust, and impeding
the efforts of fraudsters and other infringers.
TBBS offers two components which may be used alone or in tandem. Brandcasting
enables major Internet security providers to communicate the reputation of a
website—good or bad—directly to Internet users, creating a safe browsing and
online shopping experience. The fraudcasting component leverages the industry’s
most extensive network of Internet security and browser partners to automatically
block users from phish and malware distribution sites that are verified by the
MarkMonitor Security Operations Center.
TBBS Highlights:
• Instills consumer confidence in your
brand — and in conducting business
involving your brands online—by warning
or reassuring consumers when they visit
a website
• Speeds and enhances enforcement
efforts, complementing C&D letters,
takedown notices and other measures,
producing a near-immediate impact on
infringing sites
• Protects revenues by steering traffic to
legitimate properties and away from
unauthorized or fraudulent sites
• Directly influences consumer
behavior by enabling brand owners to
directly communicate guidance on
website trustworthiness
• Helps reduce overall online fraud by
expanding the community of brand
owners who globally broadcast website
reputation, increasingly weakening
infringers’ ability to carry out abuse online

With TBBS, brand owners can quickly warn Internet users of sites engaged in
potentially unlawful practices—from the selling of counterfeit, pirated and recalled
goods to cybersquatting and phishing—in such a way that users see the warnings
before they reach those sites. Just as importantly, brand
owners can reassure users that they’re dealing with
legitimate, safe websites such as those operated by the
brand owner or an authorized partner.
How brandcasting works. The MarkMonitor network
of Internet security partners create site reputation ratings
of red (fraudulent), yellow (caution) and green (legitimate),
using site classification information provided by brand
owners via the MarkMonitor portal, as well as information
collected from a range of other sources. These ratings
are then delivered to Internet users, who have the
desktop security application installed, in search engine
results or when users navigate directly via the URL bar.

How fraudcasting works. MarkMonitor sends confirmed
phishing and malware site URLs to key industry partners:
ISPs, browser and email providers, and security vendors.
These partners then implement blocking and content
filtering measures, preventing both browser display and
delivery of emails containing the URLs.
TBBS lets brand owners communicate directly to
Internet users about the safety and trustworthiness
of websites—before a site is visited. As a result,

consumers gain the confidence they need to do
business online with trusted brands, while brand owners effectively disarm
infringing websites, without the need to wait for transgressors or their ISPs to act.
Powerful, Enhanced Enforcement for a Range of MarkMonitor Solutions
As with all MarkMonitor brand protection solutions, TBBS leverages unmatched access
to data, plus unparalleled capabilities for prevention, detection and response.
MarkMonitor AntiFraud customers can add the fraudcasting component of TBBS to
their current enforcement capabilities, while MarkMonitor Brand Protection and Domain
Management customers can add the brandcasting component. Both components
make an ideal addition to comprehensive brand protection solutions from MarkMonitor.
