Primary 5 Weekly Linguistic Phonics Homework Each night we will be focusing on revising CVC words with a specific word family or sound and one key word. You should complete the tasks below with the words in your list. Please make sure that you complete both tasks each night. Monday night tasks 1) Ask somebody to call out the words in your word list for you and try to spell them using the letters in your box. 2) In your homework book, use look, cover, say, write and check to learn to spell the Monday words Tuesday tasks 1) Write one sentence including as many of Tuesday night’s spellings as you can. 2) In your homework book, use look, cover, say, write and check to learn to spell the Tuesday words Wednesday tasks 1) Write one sentence including as many of Tuesday night’s spellings as you can. 2) In your homework book, use look, cover, say, write and check to learn to spell the Wednesday words Thursday task 1) Use look, cover, write and check to revise all spellings in your word list. STAGE 4 PHONICS WORDS Stage 4 words focus on sounds that are represented by more than one letter, e.g. hill, kiss, puff. (This only applies to consonants, double vowel sounds are more complicated, e.g. ‘ee’ is not the same as ‘e’ in ‘get’). At Stage 4 the following sounds are also introduced: ck – ‘sock’ th – ‘with’ ar – ‘park’ sh – ‘fish’ ng – ‘sing’ ch – ‘chip’ qu – ‘quack’ Key words have been included where they follow the same spelling pattern. Monday night tasks 1) Sort all of the words in the whole list for the different ways of spelling the sound – these will be written at the top of your list to help you (Write your sorted list into your spelling homework book) 2) In your homework book, use look, cover, write and check to learn to spell the Monday words Tuesday tasks 1) Write one sentence including as many of Tuesday night’s spellings as you can (whizz kids might see if they could include other words with the same sounds too!) 2) In your homework book, use look, cover, write and check to learn to spell the Tuesday words Wednesday tasks 1) Use a dictionary to find the meanings of all Wednesday night’s spellings and write them in your book (if you can’t find them in a dictionary you may write the meanings in your own words). 2) In your homework book, use look, cover, write and check to learn to spell the Wednesday words Thursday tasks 1) Use look, cover, write and check to revise all spellings in your word list.
