English DT Maths Fables- Learning about Aesop’s fables, writing and telling own versions of a fable. Myths and Legends – read Greek myths, identifying key features. Plan and write own quest myths using key features of characterisation and story structure. Instructions – Write instructions for how to create Pasteli. Reports – Research Ancient Greek Gods and write a report, focus on language features of non-fiction writing. Dialogue – Consider questions we have about Greece and use information books to find answers. Use the questions and answers to write up and record as an interview. Poetry – Write poetry based on the sun, using expanded noun and adjectival phrases. Designing and making a coil pot from clay. Designing and constructing a mask in the style of the Ancient Greeks to be used in dramatisations. Counting, partitioning and calculating. Securing number facts. Understanding shape. Handling data and measures. Strategic methods to solve problems. Deeper understanding using reasoning. Science Archimedes, floating and sinking and working out the volume of 3D objects including our fists; clenched and unclenched! Thinking about the Olympics learning about the way body works. Computing Internet Safety – compiling a set of rules for ourselves on how to keep ourselves safe on the internet. Children will explore what to do if they feel uncomfortable about something they see on the internet and discuss our digital footprints. Scratch programing. Children will be creating two characters to animate a Greek myth. The characters must interact to score points. Geography What is Greece like? Map work – identify landmarks, compare Greece to UK. How does it differ to England? Look at landmarks and geographical features. Tourism – Greece as a holiday destination. Climate – compare to UK RE – Hinduism We will be looking at the main beliefs of Hinduism; how they affect a Hindu’s everyday life and discuss what we all try to achieve in our lives. Art Ancient Greece Music Ukulele – learning to play notes from simple musical notation. Looking at examples of singing games played in Greece and UK – compare and contrast. Invent own singing games in small groups. Olympics – Investigate Greek artefacts, learn about pottery and design of pottery. Create images for pottery using a variety of materials. Greek Traditions- creating a frieze to show Ancient Greek traditions. PE Swimming – we will spend the first six weeks at Brockworth swimming pool learning personal water safety and basic strokes. Invasion games. History History of the Olympics. Looking at cities and states; democracy; Sparta, Athens; the Pellopenese war; Battle of Marathon: Greek Navy; Philosophy; inventions, culture and way of life; Alexander the Great. MFL – German Learning basic conversation, stories and some written words.
