October 2016
Thoughts From Joe
Where did the summer go? It
was a fast-paced season at
Hillcrest Country Estates with
lots to do and lots of changes!
Every organization goes through
cycles like what we have
experienced this summer,
wherein Hillcrest’s overall
growth created opportunities
for advancement for key members of our team. These
opportunities allowed for others to step up to the plate
and join the Hillcrest family.
One of these individuals came to Hillcrest from
another long-term care community in Wahoo, where
she was the Director of Nursing. Tammy Cox, RN, has
over a dozen years’ experience as a Director of Nursing
in post-acute and long-term care, and we are proud to
have her join our organization. She brings with her a
strong work ethic and a desire to build confidence and
Cottage “ownership” within the team.
Tammy has brought her own version of a football
huddle to our Cottages by taking time on a daily basis
to meet with the EAs and nurses to discuss any changes
in the physical or psychosocial/cognitive condition of
our elders. This hands-on approach is already
beginning to pay dividends for the Cottages, with team
members feeling appreciated and elders’ lives being
enhanced. Please welcome Tammy to Hillcrest Country
Estates. I know she is excited to get to know each of you
better!

Thoughts From Joe
(continued from page 1)
Here are a few things that you
have told me recently about the
Cottages:
“Your team member sure had
them involved. Many smiles on
their faces; it was great to see!”
“Cottages made a difference
for our family.”
“The people here are fantastic.
My mom felt so loved and cared
for while she was there.”
“The Bible you sent to Dad’s
funeral meant so much to us. It
was nice to see how much love
the team had for Dad.”
As always, it is an honor to
serve your families and a
blessing to do so at Hillcrest
Country Estates.
Together, we will Enhance
Lives, Because We Care!

Administrator
From the Director of
Cottage Services
Fall is in the air and it’s time
to celebrate the October Apple
Jack Festival. The Cottages will
be full of hot homemade apple
cider and apple pie! We have
multiple trips scheduled to the
orchard to ensure we have the
right apples.
The chill is in the air and
changes to the leaves evoke
memories of comfort foods. If
your loved one has any recipes
that you’d like to share for all of
us to enjoy here at the Cottages,
please let the team know.
I am very excited to announce
the two new Cottage Guides
who have joined our team.
Ali Riffle joins the Hillcrest
family from Lincoln, where she
previously worked as a Director
of Life Enrichment for a
continuing care facility. She also
brings six years of CNA
experience. Ali is currently
pursuing a master’s degree in
health care administration and
will graduate in August 2017.
She enjoys playing with her two
babies (Brayden, 4, and
Adaleigh, 1), as well as watching
Gilmore Girls on repeat,
traveling and taking dance
lessons whenever possible. She
is excited to join the team and
make a positive impact on the
lives of our team members
and elders.
Michelle Sorgenfrei-Clark
joins us with a bachelor’s and
master’s degrees in social work
from UNO.
Her previous experience
includes over 15 years as a
Protection and Safety Worker for
Child Welfare and ten years in
long-term care, most recently in
a nursing home where she was
the Director of Social Services.
Though children and families
and elder care are on different
ends of the spectrum, Michelle is
passionate about working with
all populations.
Michelle’s personal interests
include reading and spending
time with her large, blended
family. Her family consists of
her and her husband, and their
eight children, one grandson
and one granddaughter.
Michelle and her husband are
also foster parents for a group
called Bassett and Beagle Rescue
of the Heartland. Their home
has five of their own dogs, and
one or two foster dogs at any
given time.
Michelle is excited to begin
her journey with Hillcrest, where
she will draw on her previous
experience and core values of
advocacy in social work to
ensure she carries out the
Hillcrest mission of enhancing
the lives of aging adults.
A special shout out to
Amanda Scott, Elder Assistant in
Cottage 80, for organizing a
Penny War throughout the
Cottages. Money raised totaled
$434.00 and was given to the
Alzheimer’s Association.

A Dream Come True
Because he has Parkinson’s,
Richard Piper wasn’t sure he
would be able to attend his
granddaughter’s wedding in
Lincoln. However, thanks to The
Dreamweaver Foundation,
Richard and his wife, Alice, got
to attend in style!
We are grateful to Von Maur
in the Westroads Mall for Alice’s
dress and Parsow’s Clothing &
Sportswear for Richard’s suit.
The Dreamweaver Foundation
even provided a limousine to
take them to the wedding!
Richard and Alice loved being
there for their granddaughter’s
special day and tell us she was
an absolutely beautiful bride.
This is a wonderful memory
