DIVISION IS THE REPEATED SUBTRACTION OF THE SAME NUMBER. IT ALSO
MEANS SHARING EQUALLY. IT THE NUMBER TO BE DIVIDED IS CALLED DIVIDEND.
THE NUMBER USED FOR CARRYING OUT DIVISION IS CALLED DIVISOR. THE
ANSWER YOU GET IS CALLED THE QUOTIENT. THE LEFTOVFER NUMBER IS CALLED
REMAINDER. THE SYMBOL USED FOR DIVISION IS ‛ ÷ ’

CHECKING DIVISION
RULE – TO CHECK THE DIVISION RESULT, MULTIPLY THE QUOTIENT BY THE
DIVISOR AND ADD THE REMAINDER TO THE PRODUCT. THE RESULT SHOULD BE
EQUAL TO THE DIVIDEND.
(Divisor x Quotient) +Remainder = Dividend
DIVISION FACTS
1. IF A NUMBER IS DIVIDED BY ITSELF, THE NUMBER IS ALWAYE 1.
EX. 24÷24=1
2. IF A NUMBER DIVIDED BY 1, THE ANSWER IS THE NUMBER ITSELF.
EX. 48÷1=48
3. IF ZERO IS DIVIDED BY ANY NUMBER, THE ANSWER IS ALWAYS 0.
EX. 0÷16=
4.DIVISION BY 0 IS MEANINGLESS

MULTIPLES AND FACTORS
MULTIPLES
MULTIPLE---- A multiple of any number is a number which can be exactly
divided by the number.
Ex-multiple of 2-2, 4, 6, 8, 10_ _ _.
PROPERTIES –
1. Every number is a multiple of 1.
2 .A numbers is a multiple of itself.
3. A multiple of a number are either equal to or greater than the number.
4. Multiple of a number are endless.
COMMON MULTIPLE
Common multiple – A number that is a multiple of two or more number, is
called a common multiple of the numbers.
Ex.- Multiple of 4 – 4,8
Multiple of 6 – 6,

ODD AND EVEN NUMBER
EVEN NUMBER- Any number which is a multiple of 2, is called an even
number.
Ex – 2,4,6,8,10,12,14_ _ _ are even numbers.
ODD NUMBER - Any number which is not a multiple of 2 is called an odd
number.
Ex – 1,3,5,7,9 – are odd number.

The factor of a number is always lees than or equal to the number.
Any number, except 1, has at least 2factors namely 1 and the number itself.
Each factor divides the number exactly
COMMON FACTOR
A number which is a factor of two or more numbers is called common factor
of given number.
