Roman Invasion of Britain
Before the Romans invaded Britain the Celts ruled
Britain.
In those times there were no roads and no
towns. The Celts travelled along muddy
tracks. The Celts had different tribes that
constantly fought each other.
When Julius Caesar ruled Rome, he made two
attempts to invade Britain, but he didn’t
succeed because of the bad British weather.
In 43 AD the Emperor Claudius was successful in invading Britain.
The Celts decided to make peace with the Romans if they let
them keep their kingdoms until they died, then the land would
belong to the Romans.
There were many fierce battles between the Celts and the
Romans. Eventually the Romans won.
