Ingredients glossary
Acesulfame K: A calorie-free, artificial sweetener used in food, beverage, and
pharmaceutical products.
Found in Formula 1 Nutritional Shake Mix.
Aloe vera: A plant that can have benefits for the body, both
internally and externally. Internally used to maintain a healthy digestive
system and to promote a healthy bowel movement.* Externally used to moisturize and
soothe skin.*
Found in Herbal Aloe Concentrate and several body care products, such as Herbal
Aloe Hand and Body Wash, Soothing Gel, and Hand and Body Cream.
Amino Acid: A key building block of proteins.
Aminogen®: A plant-derived enzyme to help the body absorb protein
(which is needed for healthy lean muscle mass, strength and energy).*
Incorporated in Aminogen® dietary supplements.
Antioxidant: A substance that helps counteract free radical damage.
Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C): An antioxidant also needed for the growth and
health of tissues in all parts of the body. Found in many foods.
Beet Root: A versatile vegetable part with high nutritional value,
containing vitamins C and A, and folate.
Caffeine: Found in many plants; stimulates the central nervous system.*
Calcium: A mineral that helps maintain healthy bones.* The richest sources of calcium
are found in dairy products.
Calcium Carbonate: A chemical salt of calcium, which the body can metabolize to
meet its calcium needs. Calcium is needed by the body for healthy bones, muscles,
nervous system, and heart. Found in Xtra-Cal® tablets, Aminogen® tablets, Snack
Defense® tablets, and Formula 2 Multivitamin Complex dietary supplement.
Carbohydrate: The main source of fuel for the body. The building blocks of
carbohydrates are sugar molecules that can be linked together in many ways to form a
vast array of sugars and starches in foods.
Cellulose Powder: A fine powder used as a binding agent in tablets.
Chemical Compound: The bonding of two ingredients–can be naturally
occurring or man-made.
Cocoa: A seed of the cacao tree.* High in antioxidants and flavonoids.

Complete Protein: A protein that contains all the essential amino acids. All animal
sources of protein are complete.
CoQ10: CoQ10 works like a vitamin to facilitate the conversion of fats and sugars into
energy. In addition to energy production, CoQ10 also acts as an antioxidant to combat
free radicals produced by the metabolism process.
Enzyme: A protein in the body that speeds up a biological process.
Essential Amino Acid: An amino acid that is not made by our bodies and thus
supplied from diet.
Fiber: Dietary fiber is found in whole fruits, vegetables, beans, and grains like oats and
brown rice. It helps you feel full and keeps you regular.
Flavonoids: Sometimes called bioflavonoids, they are plant-based nutrients known to
have health benefits.
Free radical: A highly reactive and unstable molecule.
Fructose: A natural sugar found in most fruits and some vegetables.
Ginkgo (biloba) Extract: A tree leaf extract used in Liftoff® tablets for improved blood
flow, enhanced mental performance and alertness.*
Glucosamine Sulfate: A natural compound found in healthy cartilage.
Found in Joint Support Advanced.
Green Tea: A 4,000-year-old tea containing antioxidants. Extract of green tea found in
Total Control® tablets and Herbal Tea Concentrate.
Krill Oil: An oil containing Omega-3 fatty acids extracted from shrimp-like
Crustaceans; contains astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant known to promote healthy
cholesterol levels that are already within a normal range.*
Available in Tri-Shield® capsules and Core Complex dietary
supplement.
L-arginine: An amino acid that helps the body make nitric oxide and supports
circulatory, immune, and nervous system function.*
Found in Niteworks® Powder Mix.
Omega-3 fatty acids: An essential nutrient that helps maintain a healthy heart, brain,
eyes, skin, joints, hair, and immune system.* Found in Herbalifeline® capsules,
Tri-Shield® Capsules, and Core Complex dietary supplement.

Oxidation: Occurs when life-essential oxygen combusts within the human body and
produces by-products called free radicals.
Phytonutrients: Plant-derived nutrients that can have health benefits and antioxidant
properties.
Found in Garden 7® dietary supplement and other Herbalife® products.
Potassium Chloride: A chemical compound used in many foods as a low-sodium
alternative and in sports drinks as an essential replacement for electrolytes lost during
intense exercise.
Potassium: An essential mineral and micronutrient in our diets. It’s an important
mineral for maintaining fluid and electrolyte balance in the body.
Protein: Made from strings of “building blocks” called amino acids. Protein is a
nutrient that the body needs in adequate amounts each day. Our bodies require
different types of proteins for different functions such as movement (muscles), growth
(hormones), digestion (enzymes), and sight.
Pycnogenol®**: Processed from French maritime pine tree bark, it is a highly potent
antioxidant that has been shown to neutralize free radicals.
Rosemary extract: Produced from rosemary leaves and contains antioxidants.
Studies show rosemary extract may protect against free radical damage both internally
and externally. Found in RoseGuardTM supplement.
Soy Protein: A protein derived from soybeans and the only complete protein from a
vegetable source.
Sucralose: An artificial sweetener made from sugar but with no calories.
Whey Protein: A protein isolated from whey, a by-product of milk. It is commonly
used by bodybuilders and other athletes to support muscle development and aid
in recovery.
