Egyptian Pharaoh Facebook Pages Learning Activity Plan I. Content: Describe what it is you will teach. What is the content? Each group will be given a different Pharaoh to study. The students will read about the Pharaoh’s life, achievements, and influence in Ancient Egypt. They will be investigating Pharaohs from each of the different Kingdoms. Students will see the family trees of the Pharaohs and explore the ways in which different pieces of historical evidence can conflict with each other. II. Learning Goal(s): Describe what specifically students will know and be able to do after the experience of this class. • • • • III. Use historical evidence that shows conflicting information Identify the various achievements and developments that took place during dynasties Note the differences and similarities between Pharaohs and their leadership styles Assess the role religion played in Egyptian government Rationale: Explain how the content and learning goal(s) relate to your Curriculum Unit Plan learning goals. Through this assignment, students can begin to grapple with the role religion played in Egypt’s society. As the students read about the Pharaohs, students will be confronted with the dual role of the Pharaoh as both a governmental leader as well as a religious figure. Students can compare the role of the Pharaoh to the role of our president today, drawing out the difference between the role religion plays in our government today and the role it played in Egypt’s society. In creating facebook pages, students can work through historical evidence and apply it in a way that is relevant and recognizable. IV. Assessment: Describe how you and your students will know they have reached your learning goals. Each student has a specific role they must fulfill to extract information from readings about their particular pharaoh. Each student will receive credit for fulfilling his or her role. Each group will then complete Pharaoh Facebook pages in which they must include various pieces of historical information. Each page will be assessed for historical accuracy and for the inclusion of necessary items. V. Personalization: Describe how you will provide for individual student strengths and needs. By providing students with various roles to choose from, they can pick the task that most suites their abilities. I have also found and created readings that match particular students’ reading levels. VI.
