Desert Biome
Geography and Soil
Deserts are formed in high
pressure zones which
warms descending air
currents but the moisture
evaporates before becoming
rain, resulting in dry air
absorbed by the soil
Soils rich in minerals but
low in organic materials

Biotic Factors
Biotic Factors
Relationship between Organisms
Abiotic Factors:
Human Impact
In the hot and dry
climate, the plants are
mainly shrubs and
cactuses
The most common
animals are foxes,
coyotes, scorpions,
snakes, and small
insects.
Four different types of desert Biomes
Costal desert average:
13-24˚c
Cold desert average:
21-26˚c
Hot and dry average:
20-25˚c
Semiarid desert:
21-27˚c
Potassium cyanide
which is used in gold
mines may poison the
wild life
Off road vehicles used
irresponsibly can cause
irreparable damage to
desert habitats

Solutions
Use off road vehicles
only on designated
trails and roadways.
Dig artificial grooves in
the ground to retain
rain fall and trap wind
blown seeds
Plant sad fixing bushes
and shrubs
Unique Attributes
The average desert only
rains about 25cm a year
Many desert plants
have silvery or glossy
leaves allowing them to
reflect more radiant
energy
Around one third of the
earth’s surface is
covered in deserts.
