Gland – A group of cell that secretes hormones Hormone – is a chemical messenger released into the bloodstream Hypothalamus The hypothalamus is an area of the brain that produces hormones that control: Body temperature, Hunger, Moods, Release of hormones from many glands, especially the pituitary gland, Sex drive, Sleep, and Thirst Pituitary gland Master gland It controls all other glands It is located below the hypothalamus in the brain. It is about the size of a pea Thyroid Glad Produces thyroxin. This is the thyroid gland. This hormone (thyroxin) controls metabolism and calcium balance in the body. Metabolism is the rate at which food is converted into energy Parathyroid glands These glands release hormones which control the amount of calcium and phosphorus in the body. There are four parathyroid glands. They are about the size of a grain of rice.
