Companion Website to: Travel Matters: Mitigating Climate Change with
Sustainable Surface Transportation.
The Transportation Research Board of the U.S. National Research Council
has released a report entitled "Travel Matters: Mitigating Climate
Change with Sustainable Surface Transportation." The report examines
how greenhouse gas emissions from transportation may be reduced, and
looks at the capacity of public transportation to mitigate greenhouse
gas emissions.
The report has a companion Web site that allows individuals to
calculate their transportation-related emissions, set reduction goals,
and track their progress toward achieving these goals. The site also
permits transportation planners to estimate emissions from different
types of public transit based on fuel type, and to experiment with
scenarios based on different fuel types. The site provides maps by
county for the entire United States illustrating average household
carbon dioxide emissions from transport.
