FT Soil Analysis Lab (2 days): This is a field trip where students collect different samples of soil and perform chemical as well as physical analysis on them. FT Terrestrial Ecosystem Field Study (3 days): In this activity, students will lay quadrats, survey different areas around the school property, and collect as much information as possible to identify specific terrestrial ecosystems. V Biomes Lab (3 days): This is a computer lab where students research different biomes, select one, and prepare a "travel" brochure describing specific characteristics of the selected biome. S Biodiversity Project (15 days): In this activity students will explore changes in biodiversity and ecosystem complexity over time. S Modeling Successions Lab (2 days): In this activity students will survey different forested areas around the school property and identify different successional stages, based on their observations of local vegetation. S Power of the Pyramids (2 days): In this activity students will create demographic pyramids, calculate age and gender percentages. V Global Population Trends (2 days): In this activity students will compare population growth graphs and demographic pyramids of different countries. S Mineral Extraction Lab (1 day): This activity is designed to develop an understanding about the procedures and economical effects of mining activities. S Energy Audit Lab (2 days): This investigation will help students breaking down different parts of the average domestic energy usage, and identify ways to reduce the annual consuption. S Active vs. Passive Solar Energy (1 day): In this investigation students compare the efficiency of active and passive solar designs in houses. S Solar Oven Lab (1 day): Students will be able to demonstrate that solar energy can be efficient and used in everyday activities, such as cooking. S Wind Power Lab (2 days): In this lab students will understand the dynamics of wind power, and how wind can be used to produce electricity. S Alternative Energies VideoLab (3 days): This investigation consists of 10 lab activities where students develop an understanding of renewable energies and energy production from sources other than fossil fuels. S Acid Rain Lab (20 days): This investigation allows students to see how acid rain affects the growth of plants over time. S Indoor Air Pollution Lab (2 days): This activity will allow students to detect indoor air pollutants. S Noise Pollution Lab (2 days): Students will record noise levels around the school and propose solutions to reduce excessive noises. FT Aquatic Field Study (2 days): In this field trip students will wade a creek and study its physical, chemical and biological parameters. S Water Quality Lab (2 days): Student will perform water analysis around the school. D Sewage Treament model (1 day): This demonstration will help students understand the sewage water treatment process. S What's in Our Trash? (5 days) [Home]: This investigation allow students to audit their trash management and make decisions about possible improvements. S Biomagnification Lab (1 day): In this activity students will understand the causes and effects of biomagnification in stream ecosystems.
