Welcome to The Potter’s School Mathematics Program!
Placement Process and Diagnostic Test
Placement Process:
Please answer a few questions by inserting your answers below and copy and paste into an e-mail to
your instructor so that we can make sure the correct placement is made in our mathematics program.
One of our goals is to place all students in classes where they will experience success.
1. What mathematics course and what curriculum are you using currently?
2. How are you testing? What is the average course grade earned currently?
3. What is your student’s attitude toward mathematics?
4. What percentage of your student’s learning is done independently?
5. Does your student show interest leaning more towards math and science, or more towards the
liberal arts?
6. If your student is not currently enrolled in a TPS Math course, please have your student take the
diagnostic test included on the following pages. The test is due back to the instructor for
evaluation one week from enrollment.
The diagnostic test is to be taken without notes, calculator, or outside help.
1) Complete all work on the test provided. If additional work space is needed, please
use a separate piece of paper, labeling the work with both the problem number and
page number making sure to show all steps to arrive at your answer.
2) Scan the pages of the completed test as one PDF file and send the file to your
instructor as an attachment to an e-mail. If you do not have a scanner, please take
pictures with a smart phone and send the pictures as attachments to an e-mail.
3) If you would like help submitting this diagnostic test to your teacher, please visit
TPS Support for assistance, by using the chat bubble on the bottom right of any web
page on our web site.
