2. Enlightenment and Revolutions: What was the Enduring Impact of the
Enlightenment?
Each student must take Lesson 1.2 pre-test on The Enlightenment before completing lessons in
section 2. Come to Mrs. Coleman’s class to take this pre-test in room 309.
Scientific Revolution
a. Students complete the chart in Lesson Master B, The Impact of the Scientific Revolution.
Use Chapter 5, section 1 (pp. 168-175) of the textbook, World History: Human Legacy.
b. Define the following words:
Natural rights, social contract, philosophes, Enlightenment, enduring effects
c. Students will complete pp. 224-225 in the Interactive Reader and Study Guide.
d. Read and answer the questions in Lesson Master C, Enlightenment Background Reading.
e. Students work on Lesson Master D, Key Enlightenment Concepts and Lesson Master E,
Enlightenment Concepts Matrix. Complete Lesson Master E by creating a symbol for
each of the five concepts and explaining why each concept could be a threat to
monarchies or absolute governments.
f. Complete Lesson Master F, Enlightenment Vocabulary (pp. 60-61)
g. Students will read and complete Lesson Master H, Enlightenment and Revolution
Summary (pp. 63-66).
h. Complete the handout: Vocabulary Builder for Chapter 5, Section 2 (pp. 176-181 in
textbook).
i. Read Lesson Master I (pp. 67-75). Complete Lesson Master K, Enlightenment Thinkers
and Revolutionary Leaders Matrix.
j. Complete Lesson Master L, Key Questions About the Enlightenment.
k. Read Chapter 5 section 3 pp. 182-187 in World History: Human Legacy. Answer
questions 1-3, all parts, on page 187.
l. Read Chapter 6 section 1, pp. 195-201 in World History: Human Legacy. Answer
questions 1-3, all parts, page 201.
m. Read Chapter 9, section 3, pp. 297-302 in World History: Human Legacy. Answer
questions 1-3, all parts, page 302.
n. Complete “Document-Based Investigation: Documents if Democracy” activity on pp.
188-189 of World History: Human Legacy.
After the above work is completed, students will then complete a Mini-Qs on” Enlightenment:
The Document Based Questions” Assessment and complete a POST-TEST (assessment) on the
Enlightenment.
