people living in ancient times believed controlled
what happened in the world.

A tall pyramid-shaped structure with a temple at the
top.

Buildings created for worship and practicing religious
beliefs.
tablets
Flat slabs of stone, clay, or wood, used especially for
writing.
cuneiform
The way of writing in Mesopotamia using wedgeshaped symbols.
reservoirs
A natural or man-made area where water is stored
for future use.
Code of Hammurabi
The many laws that Hammurabi, king of
Mesopotamia, had written down and which
everyone was expected to follow.
polytheistic
The belief in many gods and goddesses.

A famous king who ruled Babylon after King

Mesopotamia actually means “land between rivers.”
This area was important to our early world
civilizations.

People whose job it was to write things down.

Growing crops to feed oneself and their family.

This was an invention of the Mesopotamians.

A large group of people traveling together. In
ancient times, they often traveled on donkeys.

Many of the roads in ancient times where made out
of stones.
cradle of civilization
A way of life that was “born” in ancient times and
helped to develop our culture as we know it today.
