Welcome to First Grade’s Spelling Buffet! Pick ONE item off the menu each night. Please make sure your item is available that night! APPETIZERS (served only on Mondays) 1. Crowd Pleasers: Write your spelling words 3 times and circle the neatest one. 2. Frame Dippers: Write your spelling words over and over around the edges of the paper. Then do it again inside of that! (your child knows this as frame writing) 3. Colorful Chips and Dip: Make a rainbow. Write your spelling words over and over on each layer of the rainbow! ENTREES (served only on Tuesdays) 4. Computer Minis: Type your spelling words each two times. Try using different fonts! 5. Shape Shakers: Draw your favorite shape 10 times. Around the edges of your first shape write one spelling word 3 times. Around the edges of your second shape write the next spelling word 3 times. Continue until you have done all 10! 6. Noise Makers: Chant your spelling words aloud while you snap, clap, stomp, jump, run, skip or dance! Do each word once! *******Please see the back for the rest of the menu!***** ** SIDE DISHES (served only on Wednesdays) 1. Sidewalk Sliders: Go outside and write each of your words 3 times with sidewalk chalk! 2. Picture Perfect Poppers: Using colored pencils, crayons or paint create a picture. After your picture is created go back and write the spelling words throughout the picture one time each! 3. Create your own Combo: Create your own spelling practice idea! Make sure to write what it was on a piece of paper. I would love to know to get more ideas! DESSERTS (served only on Thursdays) 1. Fried Tracers: Use your finger to spell each of your spelling words one at a time on your Mom or Dad’s back. You could also have them trace the words on your back as you say the letters aloud! 2. Singin’ Sundaes: Have your Mom or Dad sing the letters of a spelling word to you in a loud voice. You echo the spelling in a soft voice. 3. Just for Fun: Pick a funny voice. It could be your cowboy voice, teeny mouse voice, pirate voice, whale voice or one that you make up!! Use your funny voice to spell your words to your parents! Parents, this is your child’s spelling homework for the 2nd 6 weeks. Please make sure to record the activity ordered and completed in their spelling logs each night. Have fun!
