The Heroic Pattern in Greek Mythology
1. Birth:
 a hero/heroine will usually have strange circumstances
surrounding his or her birth
 these circumstances may include one or more of:
a. s/he will have gods or royalty for parents
b. s/he may have her/his life threatened in some way
c. s/he may be seen as a threat to the government/authority
d. a trick will often have to be played to save the child
2. Destiny:
 a hero will have a specific role that s/he is to fulfill in her/his life
(often prophesied, foretold)
3. Quest:
 a hero will have at least one seemingly impossible task s/he must
perform to prove her/his worth
4. Journey:
 usually, a hero’s quest will involve a lengthy and dangerous
journey (either to or from the Quest)
5. Reward:
 a hero will always gain some kind of reward from her/his actions
(fame, fortune, status, or a prize)
6. Romance:
 a Greek hero will almost always be involved in some kind of
romance during her/his adventure
