INTERACTIONS AMONG ORGANISMS
Classification and Definition
Neutralism: find when two species interact, but one does not affect the other.
Mutualism: the relationship between two species benefiting each other is not obligatory either
is temporary.
Symbiosis: the relationship between the two species is compulsory and may or not benefits to
both.
Cooperation: interaction in which two organisms or populations benefit each other, the
relationship is not essential for life, that they can live separately. It can give even between
organisms of different kingdoms, such as flowers and pollinators.
Amensalism: Association which is detrimental to the species and neutral to one another.
Commensalism: Association in which a species is benefited and the other is not benefited or
harmed.
Inquiline: Association similar to Commensalism in which a species benefits housed while the
other is not benefited or harmed.
Facilitation: Association in which at least one species benefits.
Competition: Association between two species or organisms in which both share some limiting
environmental factor for growth.
Predation: interaction in which a species captures and eats another. The predator is usually
larger than the prey.
Parasitism: interaction in which a species benefited and another is injured. The parasite is
usually smaller than the host.
Allelopathy: interaction chemistry between two organisms of the same species or between
organisms of different species in which an organism harms or removed to another by the
expulsion of chemicals.
Mutual exclusion: interaction in which a species excluded the other in the same habitat, and
unlike. Generally, exclusion is done by the common habitat alteration.
