These pieces are called meteoroids they could also be bits of comets dust or pieces of a planet or a moon hit by an asteroid or a comet. A meteoroid can sometimes burn up as it passes through Earth’s atmosphere. This is seen as a bright light flashing across the sky and this light is called a meteor some time meteors are called shoting star.
