Warm-up: Monday, February 6, 2017 Explain the science behind this comic. Why would the Earth be taken out when the Sun goes out? Think about the life cycle of stars. What phase of the Sun’s life cycle would most likely ‘take out’ the Earth? What does it mean by ‘take out’ the Earth? Comparing the Planets In your ISN, make one page titled each of the eight planets. So, use 8 pages! On each page, include the structure, composition, size, density, orbit, surface features, tectonic activity, temperature, and suitability for life for each planet. Comparing the Planets MARS Structure: Composition: Size: Density: Orbit: Surface features: Tectonic activity: Temperature: Suitability for life: Comparing the Planets You and a partner gather the information from the internet. You should do 4 planets and your partner should do 4! Comparing the Planets Structure such include the interior of each planet and its structure. Include different layers if it has them. Structure can be divided chemically or mechanically. Comparing the Planets Composition such include the elements that each planet is made of and how those elements come together to form the majority of the planet. Comparing the Planets Size and density are pretty straight forward. Include the diameter of each planet in kilometers and the weight of each planet in kilograms. Densities listed should be the average density for the planet in kg/m3. Comparing the Planets Orbit should include how long it takes to orbit the Sun and the possible shape of the orbit. Include any other information you can find about each planet's orbit. Comparing the Planets Surface features can include ridges, volcanoes, mountain ranges, faulting, and craters. Include anything that the planet has on its surface. Comparing the Planets Tectonic activity means does the planet’s layers move or have they ever moved. How do scientists know if they show signs of tectonic activity? Comparing the Planets Temperature and suitability of life are also pretty straight forward. For temperature, write down the average temp on the surface and possibly inside the planet. Suitability for life is a yes or no question but be able to explain why or why not.
