YOU WANT ME TO WHAT?
• Simile NOT SMILE!
• Although these similes will hopefully make you smile 
DEFINITION
• Simile: a comparison of two unlike things using the words like or as
• They are used in literature, songs and poems to enhance the writing AND mostly to
show emphasis on a certain thing/idea/noun by contrasting it with something that is
unlike itself.
• Confusing right?
EXAMPLES
• Her voice is like an angel’s wings.
• I am comparing her voice to the angel wings.
• This tells my audience that her voice is soft and heavenly.
ACTIVITY
• “The Way you Lie” by The Band Perry
• Play the song and students will hi-light or underline all the similes they find. (or put
the lyrics on the board- or video and have them write down the similes)
• With a partner choose two similes and write next to it what the comparison means.
• Share with the class.
