What do I have to do?
• Choose a local surface feature and describe its
features:
• Fiordland U shaped Valleys
• The southern alps
• Banks Peninsula
• How?
• You will need to draw a diagram or find a picture
and annotate the surface features present.
The Southern Alps
Bank Peninsula
Milford Sound
What do I do next
Explain what internal and external geological processes have taken place to cause
the surface feature:
You will want to include these processes on your annotated picture/diagram.
• Internal Processes are geological processes such as:
• the formation of volcanoes or mountains due to collisions between the Pacific
plate and Australian plates
• lateral movement along tectonic plate boundaries
• the formation of volcanoes by hot spots
• movement along fault lines, such as folding, faulting, and uplift
• land movement due to earthquakes.
• volcanic activity
• External Processes are processes that occur on the surface of Earth such as:
• erosion and weathering caused by wind, ice, water, animal and plant action,
human action,
• Glaciers
• volcanic eruptions
• transportation of sediments
• changes in sea levels.
What do I do for M and E?
Merit:
• You must link how two internal and/or external
processes causes the surface features that you
see.
Excellence:
• You must link how three internal and/or external
processes work together to form the surface
features. (at least one from each).
How do I write this up?
• Your options are:
• Powerpoint (stay away from bulletpoints
though)
• Written report
• Model (must be annotated)
• Must be in your own words
• Bibliography required
