PHOTOSYNTHESIS
Target: I will be able to state the purpose of photosynthesis and identify
the reactants, products, and organelles involved in photosynthesis.
Living organisms need energy to survive.
All energy comes to the Earth in the form of the sun.
Photosynthesis: The process of plants using the energy of sunlight to
produce carbohydrates.
Purpose of photosynthesis is to store energy in glucose.
Pg. 49
Photosynthesis Equation:
Light
6 CO2
+ 6 H2O
→
C6H12O6

carbohydrate
(glucose)
Reactants: The beginning materials in a chemical equation.
Reactants of Photosynthesis: CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) & H2O (Water)
Product: The ending materials in a chemical equation.
Products of Photosynthesis: C6H12O6 (glucose) & O2 (Oxygen).
Requirements for Photosynthesis: light.
This is the energy that gets converted and stored in
glucose.
Chloroplast: Where photosynthesis takes place in plants and
algae.
Chloroplasts contain the green pigment chlorophyll.
Chlorophyll absorbs sunlight energy to start the process of
photosynthesis.

Summary:
BREAKING DOWN PHOTOSYNTHESIS
Write the equation for
photosynthesis, using different
colors to represent the
reactants, requirements, and
products of photosynthesis.
Draw the products of
Photosynthesis in a creative
way that will help you
remember what they are.
Draw the reactants of
Photosynthesis in a creative
way that will help you
remember what they are.
Draw the requirement for
Photosynthesis in a creative
way that will help you
remember what it is.
