What is photosynthesis?
Plants
with green leaves are able to make
their own food.
Another name for this is autotroph.
This process is called photosynthesis.
How do leaves do this?
Leaves
contain a natural chemical called
chlorophyll that makes them green.
Chlorophyll allows the plant to use energy
from the sun to trigger the food-making
process.
But where does the word
“photosynthesis” come from?
Like
many other words in science
class, the word comes from roots.
Photo means light.
Synthesis means make.
