Starlings are dark, medium sized birds that travel in large flocks and easily over-populate areas. How did they get here? 1890, a drug manufacturer released roughly 60 European starlings in central park. The starlings continued to replenish and are currently one of the most abundant and prosperous birds in the world. How do they affect the environment? Spread disease mostly between livestock Eat and destroy gardens or fields of fruit Large population and flocking results in noise and excretion complaints Danger around airports 1960!!! In 1960 a large flock of starlings collided with a aircraft resulting in the plane crashing and causing 62 deaths.
