The order of the Report is very similar for each lab (with a few exceptions).
Introduction:
•
•
Tell what is the overall purpose for the lab.
This is where you would introduce other experiments performed
in the past.
Following the Introduction, each Part in a lab will have the following parts:
Question/Hypothesis:
• Always written in “If…..,Then…..” statement.
Experimental Design:
Materials:
• List in bullet form (double column if more than 6-8).
• For labs with listed materials and procedures, its acceptable to refer
back to them as opposed to writing them again.
Procedures:
Analytical Data
Data Collection:
• Paragraph form.
• Explain how you collected data and what type of tables, charts,
graphs will be used.
It is acceptable (and usually preferred) to refer to an appendix
where you can lay out your data tables, charts, and graphics.
This makes for a cleaner report.
Data Analysis:
•
•
•
•
•
•
Paragraph form.
Shows a mathematical analysis of what your collected data.
Averages, standard deviation, mean/median/mode.
Explains why you chose to represent the numbers in this way.
This is NOT a conclusion!
Do not make statements assigning meaning to the numbers.
Conclusion:
• THIS is where you explain what the numbers meant.
•
•
•
•
•
Explains any anomalies you have in data.
ALWAYS refer back to Hypothesis.
If Validated, say so.
If not, say so and explain using your data.
May be very short.
Exceptions:
• If there are any major problems in
performing the lab, explain here.
• Experiment didn’t work right.
• Equipment malfunction.
• Human Error.
• Etc.
Appendix:
•
•
•
•
•
Drawings
Data Tables
Graphs
Charts
Etc.
• Give each its own Appendix number
• Appendix 1.0
• Appendix 1.2
Make sue its all Neat.
How Do you make a Graph?
1. X and Y axes labeled.
2. Each axes partitioned
effectively.
3. Accurate title for graph.
4. Legend for graph.
5. Accurate graphing.
Make sure all
these elements
are in place!!!
