2018GordonResearchConference(andSeminar)onOceanBiogeochemistry HongKong,July2018 ThesecondGordonResearchConferenceonOceanBiogeochemistrywillbeheldatthe HongKongUniversityofScienceandTechnologyfrom8to13July2018.TheGRCwillbe accompaniedbyaGordonResearchSeminar(GRS)onOceanBiogeochemistryforearly‐ careerresearchers,on7and8July2018. Marinebiogeochemistsareinvitedtosuggestpossibletopicsforthe2018GRCandfuture conferences.IntheGRCsystem,theterm"topic"referstotheoverarchingthemethat coversthe9sessionsofaone‐weekconference.Thetopicofthe2016GRConOcean BiogeochemistrywasThebiologically‐drivenoceancarbonpumps (https://www.grc.org/programs.aspx?id=17297) Infutureyears,theconferencecouldaddressthecyclesofchemicalelementssuchasC,Ca, Fe,N,O,P,S,andSi,whichareinvolvedindifferentaspectsofmarinelife,playactiveroles inclimate,andparticipateinthelong‐termstorageofcarbonintheocean.Theconference couldconsiderthecontinuumbetweenthepast,present,andfutureocean;explore observational,experimental,andmodelingapproaches;addresstheneritic,oceanic,and deepenvironmentsinthewatercolumn,andtheseafloorbelow.Itcouldexaminetheroles ofphotosynthetic,chemosyntheticandheterotrophicorganisms,andtheenvironmental driversoftheirprocesses;anddiscussbothfundamentalquestionsandenvironmental problemsofconcerntosociety.
