MTYP classes are designed to progress from basic skills to advanced techniques, each class building on the one before, so you can apply yourself to the discipline of the fine art of acting. But be warned – even the most serious and dedicated students at MTYP have a lot of fun! In this book you’ll find a wide range of weekly classes throughout the year and week-long camps at spring break and summer holidays. There are courses for 3 year olds, performance companies for older teens, and everything in between. There’s a world of theatre magic waiting to be discovered. Every class includes an open class or an end-of-year showcase so guests can share in class successes. On Stage Students age 9 and up are invited to audition for one of MTYP’s student performance companies: The Junior Company, The Musical Theatre Company, The Musical Theatre Junior Ensemble, and The Young Company. On Screen Acting for the camera and learning to make your own movies are the essential skills you’ll learn in courses and camps offered year round. Show your work publicly, and enter competitions and festivals. Class projects are posted on MTYP’s account on the website Vimeo, so you can watch them anytime you want! This course is a great way to have fun making theatre magic, while developing verbal and social skills. Playmaking Have you completed Junior Acting? It’s time to LEVEL UP! This performanceoriented class advances your skills in the essentials of acting. Improvisation training, scenework, rehearsing scripts, and onstage performance are key steps in your journey to becoming an actor. Each Showtime! class rehearses and performs a scripted play for an invited audience at the end of the year. Actors with experience in Junior Acting and Showtime! are ready for this exciting LEVEL 3 challenge! Work as part of a company of actors in the creation of a brand new play: you come up with the ideas and invent the characters, as an instructor/ playwright guides you towards a public performance of a world premiere! It’s the chemistry you create with your scene partner: the dynamic relationship with a real, believable emotional connection that makes a play sizzle and keeps people coming to the theatre. Monologues, however, are like “magic” – you cast a spell over your audience when you take centre stage. When you deliver a spellbinding performance at an audition, it can win you the part.
