
James Chadwick was born in
Bollington, Cheshire, England
October 20, 1981 the first
child of John Joseph and
Anne Mary Knowles, a
domestic servant.

His dad was a cotton spinner.

Named after his Grandfather

In 1895, his parents moved to
Manchester, leaving him in
the care of his maternal
grandparents
Chadwick graduated from
the Victoria University of
Manchester in 1911,
He studied under Ernest
Rutherford who was known
as “Father of nuclear physics”






scholarship to Manchester Grammar School, But couldn’t go because of
the fees.
Instead he attended the Central Grammar School for Boys in Manchester,
rejoining his parents there.
Chadwick graduated from the Victoria University of Manchester in 1911,
