Bright Red Patient Care Grants
A Bright Red Patient Care Grant is a one-off payment for adults suffering with blood
cancer in the north east, to cover a wide range of practical needs. This can include things
such as heating bills' extra clothing, travel costs, childcare etc.
W ho are they for?
You can apply for a Bright Red Patient Care Grant if you have blood cancer and are
receiving treatment in the Northern Centre for Cancer Care. You will need to attend the
Northern Centre for Cancer Care at least once a week, for a minimum of four weeks.
All applications need to be completed together with the social care team at the NCCC.
They also need to be endorsed by either your doctor, charge nurse/sister or your clinical
nurse specialist.
Your savings need to be no more than £6,000 if you are single, or £8,000 as a couple or
family.
Your household disposable income (this means the total amount left once you have paid
your mortgage, rent or council tax) is under:
£170 a week for a single Person
£289 per couple
NB: Disability Living Allowance and Attendance Allowance do not count as disposable
income. These are the general conditions, but we take account of individual
circumstances.
Since the amount of money available for grants is limited we will usually only be able to
offer this kind of support once. Award amounts will vary depending on circumstances
and needs but it will not exceed £25O.
W hat can the grants provide?
Some of the typical expenses Bright Red grants can help with are fares to and from
hospital for treatment, heating bills, washing machines and other household items to
help make life easier'
