We all can name a few foods we know are bad for our teeth, such as candy and sugary drinks, but can you name foods that are great for your teeth? greek Salad We love this salad as a side dish to a fun summer picnic or BBQ. We’re sure you will too! Ingredients: Tbsp. Lemon Juice 2 Cloves Garlic, minced 2 tsp. Kosher Salt 1 cup Extra-Virgin Olive Oil 2 tsp. Minced Fresh Oregano Freshly Ground Black Pepper 1 Head Romaine Lettuce (about 1 lb.), trimmed of tough stems and torn into bite-sized pieces 6 oz. Calamata Olives, about 1 cup 1/2 lb. Feta Cheese, crumbled 1 English (seedless) Cucumber, thinly sliced 12 oz. Vine-Ripened Cherry Tomatoes, halved 1 Small Red Onion, thinly sliced 1 Green Pepper, trimmed, seeded, and sliced In a small bowl, whisk together the lemon juice, garlic, salt, and oil. Stir in the oregano and pepper to taste. Set aside. When ready to serve: In a large bowl, lightly toss the lettuce with some of the dressing. Scatter the olives, cheese, cucumber, tomatoes, onion, and peppers over the top of the greens. Serve and pass the remaining dressing at the table. Acid is a tooth’s worst enemy. This acid can come directly from foods or drinks or can be produced by bacteria that thrive on sugar found in the foods we eat. To combat this enemy, we need to consume foods that neutralize acids, provide minerals and vitamins that aid in repairing tooth enamel and stimulate saliva. Some of the best foods to consume are high fiber fruits and vegetables which can physically scrub the teeth and also often require longer chewing times that stimulate saliva flow. Saliva neutralizes acids, and contains calcium and phosphates that help rebuild minerals. Water is necessary in our tooth friendly diet, as well. It is the primary component of saliva and is important in rinsing our mouths following eating foods and sugary drinks. Dairy products without added sugar, nuts, and other foods high in phosphorus, calcium, vitamin A, C, and D also aid in maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Following is a scrambled list of healthy foods for our mouth. Have some fun and you will find the answers on the back. You will see that all of these foods fit nicely into an overall healthy diet. It was so much fun last summer to see all the children come into our office for free toothbrushes and a prize and discuss some of their favorite books they were reading, that we have decided to participate in our local libraries’ Summer Reading Program again this year. Sign up at your local library and receive many prizes, including our “Reading Makes Me Smile” bookmark/coupon. These bookmarks can also be earned at your child’s local elementary school for the last trimester of the year. Dr. Butterfield loves to read and loves to hear your book recommendations. We look forward to seeing you! Happy reading! 2630 S. My answer to that is having at least two dental exams in a calendar year is the standard of care. In other words, it is the usual and customary treatment provided by your dentist. It is the standard of care based on scientific evidence showing it is the best way to catch disease early on. A dental exam with the appropriate radiographs allows a dentist to diagnose the health of a patient’s mouth. Not only do dentists look at the teeth, we also look at the tissue that support the teeth and other soft tissue. As most people know, some diseases are easier to treat if found early, such as oral cancer. At Stone Creek Dental we strive to prevent disease, but sometimes disease still happens no matter how hard we work together to prevent it. We know that by catching it early, we are able to serve you better.
