SWBAT: Factor Polynomials Lesson 10-6 Do Now: 1. 2. Vocabulary: Factor - one of two or more numbers, algebraic expressions, or the like, that when multiplied together produce a given product; a divisor: 6 and 3 are factors of 18 Greatest Common Factor – (GCF) the largest number that is a common divisor of a given set of numbers. To factor a polynomial over a designated set of numbers means to express that polynomial as a product of polynomials whose coefficients are members of the set. Steps 1: To factor a polynomial whose terms have a common monomial factor: 1) Find the greatest monomial that is a factor of each term of the polynomial. 2) Divide the polynomial by the monomial factor. The quotient is the other factor. 3) Express the polynomial as the indicated product of the two factors. 1 SWBAT: Factor Polynomials Lesson 10-6 List the factors for the following numbers. 1) 5 2) 12 3) 48 4) 96 Write the expression in factored form. 5) 6) 2x + 2 8) 7) 5c + 10 9) -12x – 36 8m + 16n + 32p 10) 63m – 49n 50r – 125s + 200 Quick C heck for Understanding 11) 12) - 4x + 8y 13) 27m – 15n 12x + 6y + 18z 2 SWBAT: Factor Polynomials Lesson 10-6 Factoring with Variables 14) 32 x x 15) 2 2 x 2 x 4 Quick C heck for Understanding 17) y2 – 3y 16) 18) y5 y 2 y a3 – a2b Factoring the Greatest Common Factor with Variables and Number 19) 20) 6 x2 12 x3 21) 12ab 20b 3 7 xy2 28x2 y + 14x 3 3 SWBAT: Factor Polynomials Lesson 10-6 Quick check for understanding/Practice: Factor C ompletely 22) 23) 25) 26) 3a 2 9 24) 27) 9r 2 36r 4 C hallenge: 28) 29) 4 SWBAT: Factor Polynomials Lesson 10-6 LESSON PRACTICE #1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 28, 30, 32 5 SWBAT: Factor Polynomials Lesson 10-6 Lesson Practice Answers #1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 28, 30, 32 6
